Most kids love to spend their time at the mall in the designated play area. There’s equipment to climb over and under, places to hide, and oftentimes, even a train to take you around the playpen.

It’s every child’s dream – play where you can eat.

That dream was no different for 5-year-old Oliver Navejar from Omaha, Nebraska. He was having a ball playing in the Westroads Mall play area. That is until he saw a police officer eating alone. Oliver could no longer have fun after seeing someone eating by themself.

That’s what sets Oliver apart from other children.

Oliver’s mom Nicole, told WOWT, “He talks about kindness daily. I mean, it’s a pretty constant thing.”

His other mom, Danielle, describes in a Facebook post just how excited he was when he first noticed the officer.

“Tonight I saw Oliver’s eyes light up like I never have before. We were at the mall and he was mid tuck and roll in the play area when I saw his eyes shift to something behind me.”

It didn’t take long before he started to make his way over to the officer, with his mother’s permission of course.

Danielle wrote:

“You can go ask to sit with him if you want. Without hesitation, he ran over and said, ‘Sir could I please sit with you?’”

The officer obliged and the two sat and talked for 45 minutes! Danielle was so overwhelmed at the actions of her son that she found it difficult to order their food.

“I was getting him food, and I was, like, crying the whole time. I couldn’t even order.”

It’s easy to understand why. Who wouldn’t be proud of their child showing another person such kindness? But for Oliver, it’s quite simple.

“The policeman was sitting alone, so I wanted to be nice to him. So I went over to talk to him and see if I could eat with him.”

He continued, “When someone bees nice to me, I’ll be nice to them.”

He sure does have a mature mindset! His parents did a great job of teaching him how to treat others.

After his interaction with the officer, he wants to be an officer himself. Danielle shared that he was so starstruck by the officer that he couldn’t stop talking about him.

“It’s, I mean, nonstop — he’s talking about his cop friend. He can’t ever remember his name, but he just knows it was so special.”

The officer’s name is William Klees. Danielle shared that she believed that the conversation meant just as much to Officer Klees as it did for her son.

“It was really the highlight of his day because, you know, he doesn’t really get to have those good conversations. So I think it really meant a lot to both of them.”

Danielle’s post has been a hit on social media. Many people are giving praise to Oliver for his generosity and kindness towards the officer.

This seriously made me tear up! You are raising quite the empathetic little man there. I have no doubt, not only did it make your little man’s day, but also this police officers day!”

“Love that little boy and his sweet generous heart!”

“Way to be compassionate Warrior. Kids smiles are a treasure.”

Although Oliver asked Santa for a Nintendo Switch for Christmas this year, he was given something so much more valuable – friendship.
