While most people would choose to walk away from bullies with sticks, there are those who come back with even bigger sticks. Then there are those who go out of their way to defend the bullied.
The sad reality is homeless people get bullied. It’s a tragic fact that bullies pick on these defenseless folk who just need a spare change to make it though the day.
What would you do if you saw a homeless person being harassed?
John Quiñones with his team from What Would You Do? decided to do a littel social experiment. They had an actor and actress pretend to be homeless while three young guys would walk down the street and harass them.
They wanted to see how random strangers would react.
A mother and her two daughters were walking down the street when they witnessed the boys harassing the beggar. The mom seemed undecided whether to get involved but one of her daughters had had it.
She tells them to leave the man alone. This young lady was actually being nice to the bullies, telling them to just walk past the man. Another lady joins in to defend the beggar, and soon enough, the girls exchange words with the bullies.
That’s when John comes out, asking the ladies how and why they did what they did. Their answers are beautiful.
The next pair to defend the homeless man are two burly men. Now these guys looked to be ready to get physical if it had to get down and dirty. The bigger dude was just about ready to break a few jaws!
Some chose to be diplomatic. These ladies and another man gave the boys a little lecture about life.
John switches things up with a homeless woman. How would people react?
A man walks by, looks at the woman, then after a few minutes, comes back with food for her. He even drops some change in her box! He begins to walk away but then hears a commotion behind him.
He makes his way back, confronting all three bullies who are much taller than he is. And he’s alone! Awesome guy.
This middle aged woman was on fire. She stares at the boys and admonishes them with a firm tone. All she wants them to do is leave or she’s calling the police. It’s getting ugly so John steps in.
This “tired as a mother” lady looks back and upon seeing the harassment, steps in to confront the boys. Two other women from opposite ends of the street get it on the bullies. These ladies want to fight!
Another woman walks in and now, the ladies outnumber the boys, four to three.
It’s just wonderful to see strangers take the time out to defend a homeless person. They are vulnerable and prone to attacks given their situation, but these random men and women showed their selflessness by standing up for the poor and the defenseless.
