And since Ms. Foot’s birthday was only one day after Cindy’s, Cindy had a special birthday surprise in mind.

Cindy’s birthday wish was because of how amazing her teacher was years before.

Cindy Davis was a young child with a lot of difficulty dealing with the third grade. Her mother had remarried recently and she and her family had moved to a new school with no new friends.

But Cindy was lucky to be placed into Ms. Foot’s class.

Ms. Foot was a kind teacher, who helped her transition into the new period of her life. She helped Cindy find new friends and even helped pave the way for her future.

Cindy followed Ms. Foot’s example and entered the education field.

Cindy became a teacher and worked to inspire future generations. Later she became a principal, guiding schools to be better places for young growing minds.

She then became a trainer, helping to guide up-and-coming teachers to follow Ms. Foot’s shining example.

Ms. Foot’s impact deserved a special cake.

But such a special cake couldn’t come off the shelf, so Cindy had one made.

Cindy knew that the birthday surprise needed the right baker for the job. So she hired The Mighty Baker, Pete Tidwell.

Pete made a crayon-themed cake that features crayons that each bear words that represent how Cindy feels about her favorite teacher from 40 years ago.

She told KSL News:

“I feel like she saved me in so many ways.”

When the day arrived, Cindy finally saw the finished cake.

It didn’t take long for Cindy to fall in love with the cake. The design was far beyond her expectations and absolutely perfect for the birthday surprise.

As Cindy climbed the steps to Ms. Foot’s door, she felt excited.

Cindy admits that she felt jittery for weeks before the surprise. She hadn’t seen Ms. Foot for 40 years. But as she climbed the steps, that fear became excitement.

When the door opened, Cindy introduced herself and Ms. Foot immediately recognized her face. She even said that Cindy transformed to an 8-year-old in front of her very eyes.

The women shared a touching moment as Cindy explained her reason for coming out. And Ms. Foot couldn’t be happier.

As Ms. Foot said:

“You don’t know what this means to me. As a teacher, this is everything. This is what we want. To know we made some kind of impression.”
