Woman caught speeding gets stopped by ‘soft cop’ she’ll never forget
When he pulled her over for speeding she knew she was guilty and accepted her fate, but what she never expected was for him to instruct her to follow him after getting a ticket.

We all know that sense of dread and aggravation felt when you’re driving and hear a siren and see those blue and red lights in the rearview mirror.

Some of us assume that we’re going to get a ticket before the police officer even reaches our window after pulling us over. Bracing ourselves for the blow of a hefty fine.

Others start dreaming up ways they could convince the officer to let them off with a warning.

Jeanette Porter didn’t have to think up an excuse for why she was speeding when Washington County’s K9 Handler Deputy Dale Quesnel pulled her over on Halloween.

That’s because she already had a pretty good one.

Her sister’s children, who are twins, were in need of some diapers. She was rushing to the local food pantry because they were giving them out for free.

“I encountered a woman speeding. I pulled her over and talked with her for a minute to see why she was speeding. I asked her where she was heading to. She told me she was getting diapers for her twin nieces,” Quesnel said, according to NEWS 10 ABC.

Porter was aware that she was speeding so when she got pulled over she kind of just accepted her fate of going home with a speeding ticket she likely couldn’t afford to pay.

“I thought to myself, ‘It is what it is,’” said Porter, according to KETK FOX 51.

But the traffic stop didn’t go the way Porter thought it would.

“I just got to thinking she didn’t seem like she could afford a traffic ticket, so I didn’t think she could afford diapers either,” he said.

That’s when Quesnel told her to follow him to the dollar store so he could buy her some diapers. Porter said she was completely caught off guard.

By not giving her a ticket and buying those diapers, she saved a lot of money that could be used to help her family.

“Deputy Dale showed me so much compassion. Not only did he not give me a speeding ticket—which I definitely deserved—but he spent his own money to buy diapers and wipes for my nieces,” said Porter.

Quesnel said he enjoys going above and beyond to serve the people of his community.

“I guess I’m a soft cop, I like to help people out,” he said. “I’ll help her or anybody. I’m not rich I live like just about everybody else, but I like to help people out.”

According to Facebook, Porter started a new job at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in 2007.

Quesnel typically spends his days on traffic duty, conducting searches with dogs, and patrolling the local streets.

Porter said she was infinitely grateful for Quesnel’s gesture of kindness.

“Thank you Deputy Dale for being so nice, generous, and compassionate. This act of kindness shocked me I couldn’t believe that a cop would go above and beyond for my family,” she reportedly said. “Not many cops would go above and beyond and to show such compassion.”

The story ended up going viral in December when news outlets applauded Quesnel for not just going easy on a citizen but also taking the time to help them out. You can learn more about this story in the video below.
