They call her “The stairwell siren“.
Lauren Paley does exactly that. Because of the wonderful sounds the stairwell produces when she sings, Lauren records herself singing in her garage stairwell.

Here’s the siren herself in that same stairwell singing Schubert’s “Ave Maria“. It’s a classic for sure, with many big names covering the song. But how many renditions are actually worthy of being played in a church?
Catholics know this one well.
Literally translating to, “Hail Mary“, it is the prayer to the mother of Jesus. The prayer based on scripture when the angle Gabriel announced to Mary that God chose her to be the mother of the Messiah.
‘And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel being come in, said unto her: “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.”
The second part of the prayer is also in scripture when Mary went to visit her cousin, Elizabeth, to tell her the good news.
‘And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda. And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth. And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: “Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.”
So it follows that the prayer, when sang, has to be worthy of heaven.
It is based on Sir Walter Scott’s poem, The lady of the lake.
Bocelli, Pavarotti, Celine Dion, and many others have had a go with Schubert’s work. It is the prayer itself but done in Latin which adds to that ancient, mystical feeling to it when listened to.
Lauren describes the song as “one of the most famous and beautiful songs in the world“. She unleashes her talent and the stairwell is filled with a voice so divine and so chilling, it would even catch the attention of non-religious folk.
Funny fact. Schubert never intended it to be utilized by Catholics.
It was never intended to be used for liturgical purposes but since it was widely accepted by the faithful, it became a piece so beloved and well known. It’s that good!
Her fans in the comment section are full of praises with some already requesting Lauren to sing songs from The Lord of the Rings and other fantasy works. They know Paley can pull them off!

In fact, once Lauren finishes her stunning rendition, she turns to the camera and says it’s her dream to sing in cathedrals around the world in 2021 if or when permitted. Can you imagine this siren’s voice singing the Ave Maria in cathedrals?
