If there was one thing that added a burden to most of our lives in the past years, it is housing costs.

Whether you’re renting or on a mortgage, the prices skyrocketed, especially during the height of the pandemic. People have been evicted from their homes for the past couple of years, and it’s heartbreaking to feel like life is falling apart.

We all know that a roof above our heads is one of a family’s most essential and basic needs. So, in these trying times, we must work multiple jobs to afford a house and our basic needs. Others are even open to the idea of living in their cars.

Shelley Duggar didn’t want her mother to face such a fate.

Her mom, Jackie Lang, is her hero, and she never wants to see her go through such a difficult state. But with the rising rent prices, she got a notice and was set for eviction in four weeks. This broke Shelley’s heart, and she knew she had to step up for her mom.

She wrote a letter to FOX5’s Surprise Squad to ask for help to alleviate her mom’s dilemma and shared why she deserved it. As it turned out, Jackie deserves all the good things in the world.

Jackie saved Shelley’s life by adopting all her children.

Shelley was in an abusive relationship when she was younger, and life was hard on her. It reached the point that she had to send all three daughters to foster care. But the girls’ Grandma Jackie wouldn’t allow it.

Jackie loved her granddaughters so much that the thought of their family being separated broke her heart. She just wouldn’t allow it, so she adopted all three girls to keep their family together.

Yes, even if it meant life could be extra challenging for them along the way.

Jackie was on a fixed income, while Shelley had disability claims, but all these aids would never be enough for a family of five. The rent of the home alone was already crippling what little budget they had.

So, when Shelley learned about the eviction, she did everything possible to repay her life hero. By luck or fate, FOX 5 News found her request and granted them a visit from the Surprise Squad.

When Shelley opened the door and saw the squad, she was in shock and tears.

After a few moments of sitting down with both Shelley and Jackie, the representative from United Nissan handed them a box containing their surprise. They got $5,000, which Jackie said would greatly help their finances.

But that’s not all!

The representative also announced that they would pay for their rent for a year. You can see Shelley’s and Jackie’s reactions on how much that meant to them. They wouldn’t have to worry about rent for the next twelve months, which would give them enough time to save, look for a cheaper place, or find other means to earn so they won’t have to face the same problem again.
