People are capable of remarkable things, including remarkable acts of kindness and heroism. Young men and women go off to war every day to protect the freedoms and the safety of those they don’t know. Doctors study for years and hardly ever see their families in order to save the lives of countless patients they wouldn’t have otherwise met. And cops, firefighters, and other public servants put on their badge every morning to protect those who may or may not appreciate their efforts.

Shanta Jordan, however, is an entirely different type of hero.

In a shocking video, Shanta can be seen jumping in front a speeding car to save a little boy. Most incredible of all is that Shanta did not know the little boy at all.

The speeding car hopped a curb in Connecticut and was headed straight for a stone wall–the little boy in the way–when Shanta stepped in. Though both Shanta and the little boy sustained moderate injuries, doctors say that the little boy would probably not still be alive today had it not been for Shanta’s heroic efforts.

Doctor’s initially thought that the little boy’s legs would have to be amputated, but they were, fortunately, able to save them.

The driver has been caught and charged with reckless driving.

Shanta is, as deserved, is being honored by city officials.

This story serves as a reminder that heroes come in all packages and that you don’t have to wear a cape, badge, or uniform to save a life and make a difference.
