Every woman knows that walking home alone at night creates a potentially dangerous situation. Unfortunately, that’s the kind of world we live in. It’s sad but true. That’s why women sometimes have to take drastic measures to make sure they’re safe.

While this is true everywhere, walking around a big city at night can be especially dangerous. Women will often carry pepper spray or whistles with them as a way of defending themselves. But all too often, even that’s not enough.

One woman experienced a scary situation

A woman in New York City was trying to get home to her son late at night. She could tell three men were following her. Instinctively, she knew she needed to do something if she was going to keep herself safe.

She approached a man to ask for help

The woman approached a black man near a train station. Although she had no idea who he was and he didn’t know her, she walked right up to him and gave him a big hug. Whispering in his ear, she asked him to pretend as though he knew her. Quickly, she explained three men were following her.

The man she happened to approach goes by the Twitter handle @WonderKing82, and calls himself the “Black Professor”.

After she approached him, the man posted about the incident on Twitter

At first, the man was worried the woman was scamming him. After all, that kind of thing isn’t too uncommon, particularly in New York. But when he saw how terrified she was, he was happy to help.

A ridiculously kind offer

Not only did this man walk the woman home after the incident, but he also proceeded to give her his number. He said she could call him or his boyfriend any time if she needed someone to walk her home from the train station. She told the man she might just take him up on the offer.

He followed up with the woman

He called her later to make sure she was okay. During that conversation, she couldn’t stop thanking him for what he did for her. She’d been so afraid she wouldn’t make it home to her son.

He had a friendly face

When she noticed the men following her, she knew she was going to need help. But she didn’t want to bring another woman into a dangerous situation. And the only other men she saw were loud and fighting. But that’s when she spotted saw this man’s face. He was smiling, which made her feel as though she could trust him.

Luckily, he was the man for the job

Not only was this individual kind enough to help this woman in need, but he was also a perfect person for the job. You see, he works as a counselor, specializing in sexual abuse. The woman said it made sense that he knew how to react so well and so quickly.
