We love our grandparents as equally as we love our parents.
Many of us have grown close and dear to them because we’ve spent much of our childhood with them.
For some of us, our parents left us under the care of our grandparents while they were hard at work.
We can’t blame them for working hard to provide for our needs, and we can’t complain about being with grandma or grandpa the whole day anyway.
When we’re older, we always want to give back to our grandparents.
It’s an unspoken rule – our heart’s promise – to repay them for all the love and care they showed us.
We want to give back because we believe it’s what they deserve after all those years of looking after us, no matter how naughty or rowdy we were.
We work hard to fulfill our promises that they may live a comfortable life for their remaining years.
Janita Badon made such a promise to her grandma Irma.
Irma Badon, whom they fondly called Momo, lived a difficult life trying to save her family.
In an interview with Kelly Clarkson, Janita said that her grandmother was once pushed into a dark corner in her life, but her faith carried her through.
She prayed to God to keep her so she could take care of her children – and she did. Not only that, but she also took care of all twenty grandchildren.
Janita was only eight then, but she promised Momo she would buy her a house.
Of course, Momo would laugh at it because what did her little granddaughter know about buying a house?
It was expensive and too much of a gift. But little Janita kept that promise in her heart.
She worked hard to make that dream for Momo come true.
She would tell ‘I’m going to buy you a house’ to her grandmother every year, and they even roleplayed that moment when she would someday surprise her.
Finally, after 23 years, Janita fulfilled her promise.
She thought she would make it in 2020, but the pandemic hit hard, and things slowed down.
But she was able to pick up where she left off in 2021 and finally fulfilled her promise to Momo – a home she would call her own.
Before this, her grandmother only lived in a tiny apartment in Portland.
The day for the surprise came, and Janita couldn’t wait to show her gift to her grandmother.
Momo even asked why her granddaughter wouldn’t just bring the gift to her house!
She and a few family members accompanied their grandmother toward her new home.
Momo was curious why Janita didn’t just bring her gift to her home. Little did she know that the gift was too big to fit in her apartment.
Janita finally revealed her surprise, and Momo couldn’t hold back tears.
The moment she opened the door, she was greeted by the entire family.
A granddaughter’s promise made her dear grandma happy that day.
Janita wrote on Facebook:
“Christmas was a dream come true…. My momo got her house! the most selfless person in this world… I really wish I could give her the world twice, anyone that knows her…. KNOWS! thank you God for allowing me to make good on my promise to her, cause it’s been on my mind for a while 😂😂😂😂 love you Irma Badon”
This was important for Janita, not only for Momo but for the rest of the family. Their grandmother was their rock and raised a village; she very much deserved this.
