Do you want a beautiful and unique entrance into your wedding? Want something memorable that people will talk about for years to come?

How about a “flowerina” to help guide you down the aisle?

Jewel Ellis is an Atlanta-based ballerina who has taken the internet by storm by dancing her way down hundreds of wedding aisles.

The young woman, who is now 22 years old, trained with the Northeast Atlanta Ballet until she was 17 years old and wasn’t ready to give up on the craft just because she was no longer taking classes. Jewel wanted to find a way to continue dancing, but to do it on her own terms.

“I just feel so free doing it,” she says, “it’s not structured… it all is just raw and it just comes to me in the moment.”

Jewel approximates her performances at about 350 in the last 3 years, her first performance as the “flowerina” was in 2019. She says it happened in a very random way, a woman contacted her about dancing down the aisle via Instagram DM’s and, though she was hesitant at first, decided to give it a go, and the rest is history.

Not everyone has a little girl in their life who can act as a flower girl, but everyone deserves a beautiful lead up to married life.

Whether gay, straight, or anything in between, Jewel is determined to help the soon-to-be-newlyweds have the most magical start to their special day. While she controls her dancing, she wants to make the couple feel included in the performances and they have the final say on the song choice, outfit, and even when she performs.

Her time to honor the couple isn’t always during the ceremony, some couples have asked her to lead the way into their reception halls as well.

“It’s a merge of my passion and my work.” She states, “My drive for doing weddings is realizing that I’m included in someone’s special day – this is a monumental day in most people’s lives.”. Jewel prepares for her performances by heading to the venue early so she can see the space she will be dancing in, while she does do a quick warm-up routine all her dances are unique and come to her in the moment.

Jewel is very aware that what she does is not exactly “normal” for classically trained dancers, but that doesn’t stop her at all.

Though what she does may not be traditional, she says is comes from following her heart and is what she loves to do.

There is no end in sight for this dancer, as long as couples continue to contact her about being a part of their special day, Jewel will continue to dance.

“Never in a million years would I have thought that ballet would have allowed me to have this deep emotional connection with people,” she says, “that’s something I get excited about each time I perform.”
