We all know that running a red light isn’t a good thing. Aside from breaking the law, it comes with its own consequences.
Not only could you potentially lose your license, but it also generally comes with some hefty fines, if you get caught, that is.
Some people don’t know what to do if they get a ticket and others?
Well, let’s just say they have a game plan.
In a heartwarming YouTube video from the channel Caught In Providence, we learn exactly what it takes to get out of trouble.
The debate begins:
“How are you?” Kayla Desano asks the judge as she walks into the courtroom.
Stone cold Judge Caprio immediately fires back,
“Did you come here to check my health?”
Coyly, Kayla responds to the judge:
“I’m just asking how you are,” Kayla responds coyly.
It turns out, the judge knows Kayla’s dad, and from here on out, the situation gets even more hilarious.
“Your dad told me had a wonderful daughter the last time I saw him,” says the judge. “It must have been you.”
That’s when Inspector Quinn, one of the bailiffs that day, chimes in:
“I was going to say it had to be her sister.”
Judge Caprio pulls up the video of the traffic violation showing the true nature of what happened.
We can see that Kayla was looking to make a right turn on red.
Unfortunately, she failed to come to a complete stop before turning.
Her vehicle can be seen slowing down to make the turn, but ultimately, she just rolls on through. There are no other visible cars in the intersection at the time, nor are there any pedestrians meandering around.
While we can’t see the side angles to know the full truth, it’s safe to say that it probably wasn’t the most dangerous maneuver in the world.
We’ve seen people just blaze straight through intersections and red lights before right in the middle of rush hour traffic.
They don’t even give it a second thought. Everyone else around them is forced to slam on their breaks and honk their horns.
It’s obvious that running a red light isn’t a good thing.
The laws are in place for a very good reason, and the punishments for disobeying the laws vary state by state. Many states will award you hundreds of dollars in fines for the maneuver, as well as demerit points on your license.
If you get too many of these points in a certain time period, you can say goodbye to your driving privileges.
However, in Rhode Island, the location of this incident, the laws are quite reasonable. It looks to be a fine of just $85, in theory.
Kayla decides to go to court to try and get the fine dismissed anyway though, and we soon learn why.
“I have a three-year-old son. I’m actually trying to collect disability. I have 18 pins and a plate in my right ankle due to a severe car accident back in 2017, so it’s hard for me to like walk and stuff,” Kayla explains.
Interestingly, her excuse for why the judge should let her off with a warning is that she was in a previous car accident.
Judge Caprio is forced to make a judgment call.
The question at hand was, does Kayla deserve the fine?
In the end, Kayla’s pleasant demeanor, plus her witty banter with the judge and the inspector, makes a huge impact on the courtroom.
Case dismissed. He orders her to pay the core court cost and that’s it. It’s all due to the epic dialogue between the two of them. Once you see the video for yourself, you’ll understand exactly what we’re talking about.
