Woman tears down old wall covering and discovers man’s childhood collection

A realtor named Melissa Brodt knew the benefits of buying a fixer-upper instead of a brand new home.

Besides the lower price tag that they usually come at, there are other advantages that homes that need remodeling offer.

First of all, renovation loans give you the opportunity to borrow based on the improved value of the home, while by remodeling it you are certainly building up the value of the house over time.

Also, renovating a place means you put your personal touch to it, and that your style is reflected on every spot. Not to mention that renovations offer the benefit of having your own timeline, meaning that you can prioritize projects and take your time until you finish the whole house.

That’s what Brodt must have considered when she decided to buy a fixer-upper in Boise, Idaho, for $324,000.

But, what she couldn’t have imagined is that the new home would come with a huge surprise behind a wall.

When she bought the house, Brodt immediately got down to business. She started working on the renovation right away, and she soon got to one of the bedrooms that certainly needed to get redone.

“I went in, got brave, said that I’m gonna deal with whatever is underneath this,” Brodt said of the ugly green wall featured in the bedroom.

She knew that the wall needed to be fixed. She was determined to remove the cover no matter what there was behind it.

When she took off the first pieces of the wall covering, something extraordinary started appearing. Little by little, she peeled off all the painted shingles, revealing a massive baseball card collection behind it.

“Today, we mustered up the courage to pull down the painted shingles that adorned the back bedroom. Look what we found: 1,600 baseball cards,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

Brodt couldn’t believe her eyes. She counted 64 cards across and 25 cards down. The person who had once put them up there must have been really dedicated and patient.

Although she really wanted to get the room done, she didn’t want to move on with the project before she found the previous owner of that bedroom- and hence the owner of the collection.

And she found him. It’s Chris Nelson, who grew up in the house, and who used to be a baseball fan. When he was told that someone had revealed his collection, he couldn’t resist seeing it one more time.

“I could see his childhood happening in this bedroom,” Brodt told Inside Edition.

The man returned to his childhood bedroom and explained to Melissa how he put the cards up on the wall.

As for the value of the collection? Well, this is a disappointing topic. It seems that those cards were mass-produced and, therefore, not rare. Also, the fact that they are glued on a wall doesn’t really help.

Still, Melissa isn’t planning on taking them down. The collection is staying and- who knows- it may one day be found by a future owner of the house.

So, have you ever found anything fascinating in an old home like this?
