The world is obsessed with watching makeovers. And let’s face it, the more dramatic the better!
When a woman named Mary went on The Tyra Banks Show seeking a new look, it was obvious from the beginning it was going to be an exciting segment. That’s because she had really, really long hair that almost touched the floor.
In the end, Mary’s results are so night and day that Tyra admits that it’s “one of the best makeovers we’ve done.”
Step right up folks and see if you can guess Mary’s age.
Just before her “age-defying makeover,” the show wanted to see how old audience members thought Mary was. So, they collected numbers from everyone and found the average.
Believe you me, there is nothing I would want less than to be the focus of that game…
Tyra finally reveals the crowd’s guess and it’s 40. Now, some women might be cheering to get those results, but the problem was that Mary was only 23!
It would be her first haircut…ever.
As it turns out, Mary had never had a haircut in her entire life (well, besides her bangs). Her parents didn’t cut it and neither had she.
She explained to Tyra:
“My hair has always been me, it’s always been my security blanket. I’ve been scared to cut it since I’ve gotten older, but it makes me look older.”
On the topic of Mary’s hair making her “look older,” she actually had some pretty rough stories on the topic.
Mary shares with everyone that at her 18-year-old sister’s school event, people thought she was the mother. In addition to that, she’s been told she and her 52-year-old mom look like sisters. Yikes.
There was another huge reason the guest was seeking a makeover.
You might think Mary wanted to cut her hair due to it being a pain in the neck (no pun intended). But the reality was – she was getting married soon and wanted a fresh look for her “new life.”
In fact, her fiancé Luke is even sitting in the audience.
Fortunately, there was a famous team of stylists ready to transform Mary into a “hipper,” “younger” version of herself.
Before anyone got to work on Mary there was one last thing that needed to be done. Instead of cutting her hair out of view, they brought Luke onto the stage to do it.
Poor Mary is in tears as her floor-length hair is placed into a ponytail and she prepares for the chop. Understandably, she admits she’s “scared” about the haircut.
Host Tyra Banks gives her a little pep-talk. She reminds her:
“Do you want to look how old you are, and who you are? Or do you want to continue to look older and feel older to hold onto something from the past?”
Yep, that was the point Mary was completely ready to go. Her fiancé chops her ponytail completely off in front of everyone’s eyes (which was going to Locks of Love).
One of the best parts about a makeover is seeing the results. Get ready because Mary walks out unrecognizable!
With a short haircut, makeup, and a stylish outfit she looks like a young woman ready to take on the world. Tyra can’t help but exclaim:
“Oh my God, I don’t know who this person is! I have never seen this person ever in my life before…”
