With all the negative stories in the media right now, I think it’s important to remind people that there’s more good in the world than we’re often aware of. And this story may be the perfect reminder…

Last June, a Good Samaritan went viral when she was candidly photographed helping a blind man hail a taxi on a busy street.

Casey Spelman, 26, was visiting Wrigleyville, Chicago, for the first time. She and friends had attended a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, but afterward, when they were leaving, she noticed a blind man was struggling with the crowd.

The blind man, later identified as Yusef Dale, an assistant US attorney in Chicago, was holding a walking stick and waving his hand in an effort to hail a taxi. Sadly, he wasn’t having much luck.

“People were in front of him, so I thought it might help him a little bit if he stepped in a little further,” Casey told Fox59.

“I just said ‘Hi, are you trying to get a cab?’ And he said ‘yes’. I said, ‘Would you like some help?’ and he said that’d be great.”

“Yeah, you sound pretty, so cabs will probably stop for you before me,” she recalled Yusef joking.

The young girl chatted with the man for a few minutes, until they managed to get a cab. She then gave him a hug and helped him inside before they went on their own path.

“We laughed and exchanged goodbyes and went our own separate ways,” Casey said.

The next day, Casey woke up to see photographs of her kind deed, taken without her knowledge, had been uploaded online and were going viral.

“It’s a strange feeling to see photos of yourself that you did not know were taken,” Casey said.

“Not only did I not realize anyone was watching, but I had no idea it would have such an impact on people.”

Turns out that a man named Ryan Hamilton had been on a rooftop bar and had witnessed the whole event. Touched by the girl’s kind actions, he snapped a few photos.

Ryan shared the photos on Facebook, writing:

“Wanted to give a shout-out to this girl. No idea who she is, but we are in Wrigleyville on the rooftop of the Old Crow Smokehouse. There was a blind Cubs fan trying to hail a cab for several minutes until the lady came up and asked him if he needed help hailing a cab.”

“She stood there with him until one pulled up. Awesome to see such kindness in a world that the media portrays so much hate in. Share freely in hopes that he kindness spreads.”

“There’s so much negative stuff in the world and this is the opposite of that,” he told Fox59.

Since being posted on Facebook, Casey’s act of kindness has been shared thousands of times and was featured by various media outlets.

People who hear the story loved the kindness of her act, noting the world would be a better place if more people looked out for their fellow man.

“I wish everyone could make an effort to spread this type of kindness each day. Just imagine how that could help change the world.”

“This is an example of what America is SUPPOSED to stand for. Lets take her lead and help a somebody.”

“I’m a 58-year-old biker in Texas I cried like a baby when I saw this. There are so many more to bring us together than to drive us apart.”
