It’s easy to be kind and love someone when they are asking for love and are thankful for it. But it’s a lot harder to love someone when they are being difficult and “unlovable.” Yet, the ability to love and show kindness to someone in this state, and to offer your love without condition, is actually the truest and most pure form of love.
A photo of a beautiful act of unconditional love was spotted on the train and ended up going viral on Facebook.
The incident occurred when a very tall bald-headed, leather jacket and big black boot clad man was acting aggressively on the train. The intimidating looking man seemed to be suffering from mental health issues and was using foul language and shouting.
Though everyone else on the train was frightened and scared, a 70-year-old woman sitting next to him was not. The knew the man needed a loving hand and kind gesture to calm down, so she reached down to the man who was sitting on the floor and held his hand.
The two of them didn’t say a word. Eventually, the man calmed down and eventually teared up. It seems that he hasn’t probably hasn’t had anyone touch him in quite some time.
This is a true testament to the healing powers of touch which some say can cure mental and physical ailments and cause people to be less aggressive.
“I’ve actually visited those orphanages and they are extremely depressing, as you might imagine. You see children—the caregivers will tell you their age—and they are very clearly half their expected height and they are extremely developmentally delayed due to their not being touched enough because there are many children to very few caregivers,” The Touch Reseach Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine’s Director Tiffany Field told ABC.net.au.
“While they do get adequate nutrition and they are generally looked after, they don’t get very much touch. We did a study comparing children in Paris with children in Miami. The children in Paris received a lot more physical affection, both from each other and their parents and their teachers than the children did in Miami, and they were physically and verbally less aggressive than the children in Miami.”
Ehab Taha’s photo of the 70-year-old woman’s act of kindness went viral and was shared more than 34,000 times on Facebook.

“I saw the most incredible display of humanity on the sky train. A six foot five man suffering from drug abuse and or mental health issues was being very aggressive on the bus with erratic movements, cursing, shouting, etc. While everyone was scared, this one seventy-year-old woman reached out her hand, tightly gripping his hand until he calmed down, sat down silently, with eventual tears in his eyes. I spoke to the woman after this incident and she simply said, “I’m a mother and he needed someone to touch.” And she started to cry. Don’t fear or judge the stranger on the bus: life does not provide equal welfare for all its residents.”
