When you think of a Walmart employee and their salary, you don’t exactly think of someone who is rolling in dough.
According to payscale.com, the average full-time hourly wage Walmart employee makes about $14.26 per hour.
Yet, some Walmart employees still share whatever they have regardless of what they make.
Tatyana Holmes is one of those employees. She is a cashier at a St. Petersburg, Florida Walmart.
That’s the cashier Kim McNinch of Gulfport ended up with when she was visiting the store.
“I came to Walmart, I needed some necessities,” McNinch told FOX 13 News.
As if dealing with out of stock items, lines to get in the store, and trying to keep 6-feet apart from everyone isn’t enough, many customers are out of work and financially strapped when they get to the store.
That was the case for a woman in line with Kim McNinch.
The woman’s bill was $83 but she was about $5 short. Without thinking twice McNinch immediately offered to pay the difference.
“We all could use a little help,” McNinch said. “So I offered to pay the amount that was still owed.”
But by then it was too late.
Holmes, the Walmart casheier, had already covered the cost.
McNinch told Holmes that she would split the cost with her.
But Holmes refused again.
McNinch was touched by the reason Holmes gave for paying for her customer.
“Tatyana said, ‘No, I’m working and so many are not and I want to do this for both of you.’ I will admit I shed a tear and asked if I could take her picture in hopes Walmart gets wind of her act of kindness and to share that moment,” McNinch wrote on Facebook.
She paid with $5 and a dollar in quarters.
“I got very emotional,” McNinch said. “The fact that someone not only wanted to help the person in front of me but also me from having to pay for her. She was really taking care of two people.”
Holmes said her act of kindness just goes along with her motto: “Be kind to others and treat people the way you would want to be treated.”
“Both customers were overwhelmed and shocked,” Holmes told WTSP 10 News. “If I have the change or the money, then I want to help you. It’s just the person I am, acting out of kindness that’s just how I was raised.
“I was always taught to help even if people are not struggling, whatever small act I can do I will.”
McNinch was happy to know that there are good people out there who share the struggles of those who are suffering right now and doing so without judgement.
“Remember to thank them even if it’s a cashier from Walmart for also being on the front line,” McNinch wrote.
“In closing as I watch the nightly news and I listen to how many people are going outside at night to show their appreciation to all the workers in medicine. I can’t help but think, as important a role they are in medicine AND THEY ARE, the ones working outside the hospitals are dealing with us. With no knowledge if the person in front of them has the coronavirus. Nuff said. That can be just as difficult!”
Holmes gave McNinch permission to post her photo on Facebook so that people could salute her. And they surely did. You can check out the full post below.
