Becoming a police officer means taking your oath seriously.
You prioritize your duties as a public servant and do your best to help those who are in need.
A Virginia police officer knows this all too well.
Officer Holt is hailed as a local hero after he single-handedly lifted a car that had overturned to save a woman who was trapped inside.
It was May 7, in Gloucester County when Deputy John Holt responded to an emergency call.
In a viral video, we hear Deputy Holt inform the dispatchers that a car had overturned and he was already near the scene.
We then see Holt’s body cam footage as he jumps out of his police car and rushes to the scene.
Thing were not looking good.
A person at the scene was also panicking, asking the deputy for help.
Deputy Holt looks inside the vehicle and there, he saw a child crying.
He asks the child it if was his mother who was trapped and the boy said yes.
Then we see Officer Holt’s incredible resolve.
“Yes, she can’t breathe! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!” the young boy said to the officer.
You can hear from the boy’s voice that he was so scared and traumatized by the accident.
Wasting no time, Deputy Holt notifies the dispatchers about the situation and informs them that the mother’s head is trapped beneath the sunroof of the car.
He had to act himself.
We could also hear heavy breathing and the woman saying that she couldn’t breathe.
Holt asked the child to get out of the vehicle.
Knowing that he doesn’t have enough time, Deputy Holt, using all his strength, presses and lifts the car by himself.
This is where the screen of the body cam turns black and we hear the officer groaning and straining, using all his might, to lift the car.
The woman’s sigh of relief was audible.
You could hear her breathing as she moved her head to a safer position.
Deputy Holt went into overdrive upon seeing the scared boy.
He didn’t want the child to experience the unimaginable, so he gathered all his strength and placed his shoulder on the car’s door frame.
In his interview with 13 News Now, he said that he told himself to just stand up, and gave all his strength to push the car upwards until the driver was able to move her head.
Medical staff confirmed everyone was okay.
In a miraculous turn of events, everyone was discharged with a clean bill of health.
On May 18, the Facebook page of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office shared the breathtaking footage that had since gone viral.
For Deputy Holt, it was his duty.
“I’m just an average cop and you know, it’s what we do. Thinking of doing anything different, is out of the question,” Deputy Holt shared.
This isn’t his first hero’s rodeo.
As it turns out, just a few months back, he was already held as a hero when he saved two people from a burning house.
Due to physical disabilities, they were not able to escape the burning house.
Because of his heroism, Deputy Holt received the Top Cop Award from the Greater Hampton Roads Regional Crime Line on February 2, 2021.
For Deputy Holt, he was just doing his best to fulfill his duties, but for all of us, he’s a hero and an inspiration for everyone in the field.
