Army veterans did a lot for the country. They sacrificed time with their family and even placed their lives at risk just to make sure everyone in the country is safe. They gave up a lot just to be able to do their duties. Unfortunately, despite everything they did, not a lot of people are able to thank them.

DeShauna Priest is one of the few people who expressed her gratitude to a World War II veteran.

She was just nine years old when she sent a letter to veteran Frank Grasberger. She thanked him for his service.

For Frank, the letter meant a lot.

That’s why he made sure that he’s never without the letter. He has always kept it close ever since he received it in 2009 when he was on an honorary flight to Washington.

He received a surprise visit from DeShauna. Because he didn’t know who the little girl was or how she looked, he failed to recognize her.

When he realized that the woman in front of him and the little girl who wrote him a letter ago were the same person, he became emotional.

To his surprise, DeShauna is now 21 years old. She’s also become a member of the Army National Guard Reserve.

After so many years, the two were able to catch up with each other.

They talked about what happened over the last number of years. They shared precious stories and memories. And they plan on keeping in touch from that day on.

It was a miracle.

For Frank, he’s received a lot of miracles in life and DeShauna is definitely one of them.

He shared with CBS News:

“There’s love there, deep down in the heart. She’s like my third daughter, she really is.”

The pair’s story has touched a lot of people’s hearts.

Someone who’s watched their story said:

“It’s good to see a great story like this especially with the stuff going on in the world today. God Bless both of them.”

Another one commented:

“Love this wonderful story, sweet!!! So many hardened hateful hearts everywhere in our country these days, we need more heart warming stories like this,.”

There was also this person who said:

“This story made my year— a bright light in all this darkness.
It made me tear up and gives me hope. There is still more goodness in this world than not. Thank God. Blessings to all veterans, active duty military, first responders, and medical personnel. I thank you and your family members for all the sacrifices you made trying to make the world a better, safer, and healthier place.”
