It’s no secret that the housing market is oversaturated right now with people looking to buy a home. With it being difficult for pretty much everyone, it can feel like a win for all of us when some people who really deserve it get a break.

Recently, a military family got their whole mortgage paid off after they bought their dream home. Their reactions, and the support of their community, are inspiring for all of us.

Both Mario and Amy Perez have been in the Marines for over a decade.

They have gone on multiple tours and deployed several times. Despite their choice to show their support for the country in this way, they still weren’t exactly living in the lap of luxury at home.

In fact, the couple had been looking for a new home for a while, but the housing market has been so competitive lately that they couldn’t find anything they could afford. Every time they found a house they loved, someone else would offer a payment over the asking price, and the house would go to them instead.

They finally found a house that they loved that worked for them.

They found their dream home outside Jacksonville, North Carolina. It would be great for them, and also allow enough space for their two kids to play and grow. It meant that they would have to take out a big loan, but it was worth it to them for the house.

But the Perez’s family and friends had other plans for them. They nominated the couple for a Veterans United Home Loan.

Veterans United is a company that seeks to help military families with their loans. In addition to helping secure loans for military service members, Veterans United also has a program that seeks to pay off the loans of certain members. Through this program, they paid off the loans of 11 military families in 2021.

Good Morning America decided to surprise the Perez family with the news. The show got a group of the family’s best friends, neighbors, and community members together to go tell them on air that they had been selected to have their loan paid off in full. With a camera crew, banners waving, and a local marching band, the Perez’s received their amazing news in style, and we all get to see their reactions as it happened.

The couple’s mortgage was literally ripped up in front of them.

Learning that your mortgage has been paid off in full must be an unmatchable feeling. Mario and his wife Amy were both crying as the news sank in. He described it by saying:

“It’s unreal to even think that, I mean, I never would’ve thought anything like this–I’m out of words.”

It feels great to see a kind family get a break in life.

Especially given how competitive the housing market is these days, it feels good to know that this is one family who will be able to feel secure in their new home. Everyone in the Perez’s community was excited for them to have this loan paid off, and it’s beautiful to see a whole group of people come together to celebrate and uplift one family’s good fortune.
