Everyone at one point in their lives has received a parcel at home from one of the well-know mailing companies. What is your first thought when you open your door to collect your delivery? Probably, it has everything to do with the package and nothing with the man or the woman delivering your parcel.
And the truth is, we are so focused on the collecting process that we tend to overlook these people in uniforms, considering them as the “same” person over and over again, never wondering about their identity. Who are they? What could they be doing during their free time or during their breaks?
Well, this article will give us an idea at least for one particular individual, a “UPS” worker. The story takes place in the crowded King’s Cross railway in London and it involves a UPS employee and a piano, but this story comes with a twist. Sit tight and enjoy!
It starts with a beautiful unsuspecting girl sitting at a public piano located in the King’s Cross railway, she’s trying out her musical skills when a man in brown, a UPS worker approaches her. The man is listening to her, playing, while asking questions about how she’s positioning her hands over the keyboard and the pacing of the song.
Any overlooker would imagine that the man is a piano lover but a complete beginner. And, soon we see the girl giving her place on the stool to the UPS worker, who starts by tapping one by one the keys as kids would. Nothing can prepare us for what’s coming next!
The girl steps slightly away to take a call when the man starts showing much more skill than he had initially led us to believe. Soon enough, the man starts playing like a professional piano player with years of experience under his belt.
Then, the girl comes back and she’s obviously impressed by the man, who proceeds to explain that his playing was nothing more than improvisation and he couldn’t really read the notes from the music sheet.
It’s so hilarious, how he feigns ignorance once more, pretending to be only a UPS worker like it would be impossible for a delivery man to be an excellent piano player too.
What the girl and the rest of the public don’t know is that the man is actually Brendan Kavanagh, a professional piano player and instructor, who loves to dress up as regular workers do and surprise the unsuspicious public with his amazing piano skills. In a way, he kind of pranks them!
Kavanagh goes around London dressed in different work uniforms, you might see him as a UPS worker and another time as a street constructor, wherever it is available a public piano, you might find him nearby. It might be on a crowded railway or at an airport.
At his YouTube channel, with more than a million subscribers, you can find all of his disguises/pranks and much more, and clearly, this man can really read and play music.
