When disabled veteran, Marc Walsh of Detroit, realized that he had lost his wallet, he knew he was about to go through a hard time- lost ID, hundreds of dollars along with it, and him being in search of a job, things were about to get rough. But then there was the best plot twist he could have thought of.
Veteran Marc Walsh was walking back home from the grocery store one evening, when he dropped his wallet without realizing it. When he found out it was missing, it was too late to do anything about it. He could only hope that an honest person would find and return it. But, let’s be realistic, what were the chances?
Luckily for him, the next day two twin girls from the neighborhood, Makhia and Makyla Vincent, literally stumbled upon the wallet on the street while they were walking to school. When they opened it, they found the military ID and that reminded them of their granddad.
“I read the veterans card and I was like I would hate if that was my granddad and that happened to him so I knew we had to return it,” Makyla said.
They immediately knew they had to do the right thing and take the wallet back to its rightful owner. So, they tracked Walsh down and walked to his house. When they got no answer after knocking on the door, they turned to the security camera and showed the wallet. Then they placed it on the front step and left.
When Walsh returned home, his roommate informed him that his wallet had been left on the porch and then encouraged him to look at the security video. The video revealed the two girls that had come to return the wallet earlier. The sight of the two teens showing the camera the missing wallet melted Marc’s heart. These girls had to be rewarded somehow.
Walsh decided to find the twins, so he turned to the local media. Soon, a meeting was arranged between the Vincent twins and the Marine Corps veteran. The man got emotional, rewarded the girls by giving them the money that was in the wallet when they found it, and then the three of them united in a warm hug.
“It renews my faith in humanity it really does,” Marc Walsh said, adding “I’m so incredibly grateful, so grateful and humbled.”
The girls were happy to have helped another person, although they were a little overwhelmed by the publicity that followed their deed. As they said, they feel happy about how things turned out, and that they believe other people could have kept the money for themselves. As for the reward, they are planning to spend very little and save the rest for the future.
Such stories restore our faith in humanity and show us that not all honesty and kindness is lost. Especially when such good deeds come from young people, it shows that maybe our future is in better hands.
