Ask any parent who has had the surprise joy of twins, and they’ll tell you that raising them is no mean feat. For identical twins, the balance between living your own individual life and identifying with your identical other is a lifelong affair.
Do you lean into being identical to another human being and mirror each other’s lives, or forge your own places in the world?
When identical twins Brittany and Briana met their identical twin counterparts, Joshua and Jeremy at a twin convention, they formed an identical relationship. Brittany and Joshua hit it off, and Briana and Jeremy found their match as well in this seemingly meant-to-be match up.
The Christmas party must be a real mind-game!
Soon the pairs married and even moved in together.
After sharing a proposal, they began sharing the same house. Three weeks later, both twin women fell pregnant within three weeks of each other.
Sadly however, both pregnancies simultaneously miscarried.
Not only were the twins in-sync with their gaining pregnancy, but losing it too. As Briana tells Inside Edition:
“That was tough. I think that we just have the same body, and that if one of us went through that It wasn’t surprising- it was still devastating- but not all surprising that I then went through the miscarriage as well.”
Then, among the pandemic, Brittany revealed that she had fallen pregnant again.
Her sister Briana was excited for her and kept her company to her pre-natal checkup at LewisGale Medical Centre in Salem, Virginia. But as Brianna recounts to Inside Edition, something was amiss with her body that day.
“My stomach was hurting that day and I was just not really feeling myself.”
As it turns out- you guessed it!- Brianna was pregnant too. Now, once again only a few weeks apart, the twins are expecting babies at around the same time.
As you can imagine, the dads-to-be are stoked!
I guess this means they can all get their baby shopping done at the same time! I hope they have a system in place for making sure they have the right pair-up, especially if they all live in the same house. How will the kids know if they’re talking to their dad or their uncle?
Meanwhile, Briana and Brittany are prepping for delivery.
It’s clear that after the miscarriages, they’re excited to see their parallel pregnancies come to fruition. It seems that these two live such inseparable lives that if only one of them were to have a child but the other didn’t, it would have created a significant difference between their ever-parallel lives.
Their obstetrician, Dr Kevin Walsh claims to have hit the jackpot:
“For an OB Doc, this is like winning the lottery, it’s really that rare….This is a really special situation in that we have four parents, but only two sets of DNA. What that means is that these children are biologically, while they’re cousins, they’re biologically going to be siblings.”
I know what you’re thinking- “Are they having twins?”
As much as that would be yet another degree of perfect sibling symmetry, and some sort of poetic justice for this complete set of twins, the ladies are expecting one child each. This is still remarkable, as Dr. Walsh said, the genetic result of these sets of genes will be truly fascinating.
The latest addition to their twin dream-house?
Of course, it’s a shared nursery for the newest house-mates. And you guessed it, the cribs will be matching!
