Milestones. For new parents, every single thing their child does should be recorded as it is the most precious thing in their worlds at that moment. perhaps none more so when they begin to talk. Or try to.
Hearing that small voice attempting to communicate with you all while trying to decode what the little one is saying gets the heart surely melting.
This video has mom and dad teaching their fifteen month old twins how to talk with a variety of vocabulary words. Not just that though. They’re teaching the two boys sign language.
On a beautiful evening, mom and dad sat both boys down for a practice session. Axten and Rayden (very cool names) are dressed in their brand spanking new monster jammies which means they are both ready for bed. But before those eyes get to close, mom asks them to repeat those words that they have learned.
These boys are smart. They can say the names of different animals and people.
What about those signing skills, you ask?
Well mom and dad know best. Axten and Rayden know a handful of basic signs for easy communication, including but not limited to, “eat”. Which one of the little princes demonstrates.
How about for a drink?
Axten’s got it! He says the word THEN demonstrates with sign language. Mom asks him to demonstrate “cold” and what does he do? He shivers! what a smart little guy!
Rayden’s turn. Oh wait, he seems distracted by the monsters on his pajamas. It’s alright, little buddy.
But did you know that teaching your kids sign language has benefits?
According to Dr. Jay Hoecker, it can be a fun bonding activity between parents and child as well as teaching them another effective communication tool. He says,
“Limited research suggests that baby sign language might give a typically developing child a way to communicate several months earlier than those who only use vocal communication. This might help ease frustration between ages 8 months and 2 years — when children begin to know what they want, need and feel but don’t necessarily have the verbal skills to express themselves.”
Dare you not to smile while watching Axten and Rayden.
Mom continues to quiz her boys. Words and phrases that would be useful and beneficial like “all done” and others are a must after all. And look at the effort the two brothers are putting in to learning. They listen well to their parents which means they have excellent communication skills!
Of course, there’s always room for error.
So mom goes on about the classic “head, shoulders, knees, and toes”. Axten, once again, looks to be the attentive one remembering the song as he demonstrates it by hitting his brother on the head. More than a few times actually. Yeah I do that too, buddy.
But just like the sweet little boys that they are, they know how to kiss and make up.
And now for animal sounds! Everyone enjoys seeing babies do animal sounds. Go ahead, Axten and Rayden!
They practice with mom, and when Axten does chicken, it’s a really cute and funny response. Well done! Now, for bed. Axten is still having fun with his younger brother even though Rayden already looks sleepy. Rayden looks to be walking towards his bed already too. Off you go too, Axten! Good night, guys!
