In a moment of “right place at the right time,” this man saved the lives of two people – all while having the moment change his life too.
David Fredericksen was driving down the freeway when a horrible accident happened before him.
One moment, he was casually watching the road with his hands on the wheel.
He and his partner didn’t anticipate what was about to transpire.
Before he knew it, a collision happened up ahead. It was a car and a truck.
This went from a simple drive with his partner to a nightmare.
Now, smoke, flames, and two wrecked vehicles were on the road.
And every vehicle’s got a driver.
There were people trapped in those vehicles.
David did not like the feeling creeping over him.
His gut was telling him to prepare for the worst.
He didn’t see what happened to the passengers yet, but part of him was afraid to find out.
What if he went to help and saw people screaming and burning inside? What then?
But whatever he was going to see, he’d have to accept.
They needed help, and he might not be able to live with himself if he stood by and watched.
Fortune favors the prepared man, and David happens to carry a small fire extinguisher with him
He approached the flames, extinguisher in hand, and was delighted to realize he could put his fear to rest.
Despite the initial wreckage, he saw a small head move through the window.
It was a child with its mom. They were alive.
Feeling relieved, David had to work fast to get them out.
“I heard the metal bending.”
He tried to pry apart the metal as he heard it melting and shifting from the heat.
More people saw what was going on and came over to help.
All David could think of was getting the 2-year-old girl and her mom to safety.
The door hadn’t budged even after all the heaving and exerting from him.
It wasn’t until after some prayer and one-last ditch ounce of strength that it budged open.
After the struggle, he got the little girl out to safety.
He reached in, and she grabbed him around the neck as they exited the car.
The other motorists then tended to the woman still in the car.
Knowing the woman would be okay, David took a moment to thank god and see the little girl he’d saved.
He truly believes God acted through him that day.
He wouldn’t have been there to save them if he had been on that road 10 or 20 seconds earlier.
With a little girl in his arms and an overwhelming feeling of relief and thanks, he watched as they rescued the woman in the car.
And when he tells the story, you feel right there with him.
