Many of us are fortunate to work from their homes during this pandemic but people like doctors, nurses, shopkeepers, and volunteers who deliver groceries to people in quarantine don’t have that luxury.
We depend on them more than ever before. However, our markets would be empty and volunteers would have nothing to deliver to people in need, were it not for truckers who work day and night to keep the supply lines open.
A woman’s act of kindness leaves truck drives with ‘lump in his throat’
Mike Kreisel, a truck driver, was returning from St. Louis one afternoon almost two weeks ago and pulled off in the rest area to take a break when he noticed pick-up pull in and park at the end of the lot. He described what happened next in a Facebook post.
“As I climbed back in my semi to leave, I noticed two girls, I’d say around the age of 7-8 years old, climb in the back of the pick up and pull out two cardboard signs they made. I couldn’t read the writing, but I could see all the glitter and the pictures and I could make out something about truckers. They were jumping around and waving them excitingly at every truck that passed by on the interstate.”
“We wanted to thank you for what you’re doing”
“As I began to pull out and back onto the highway, ‘mom’ came running towards me waving her hands for me to stop, at which point I did,” Mike continued with his story.
When he put down his window ‘mom’ handed him a bag and said she wanted to thank him for what he’s doing.
“…You and all the truckers working hard to keep our supply lines open. Here’s just a little goodie bag we put together to show our appreciation. Be safe and thank you again!’
The girls couldn’t stop grinning as Mike thanked them and their mom and waved to them.
‘I couldn’t be prouder or more touched than right now’
As he was preparing to depart and head back towards the interstate, Mike saw dad “putting together more bags and wearing a US Army stocking cap.”
“We’re going to make it through this…with love, caring, and that unbreakable American spirit,” he concluded.
Mike’s post has quickly gone viral on Facebook and got more almost 400k likes and 32k comments. We’re glad to see how much people appreciate what Mike and all the truckers are doing for all of us in this difficult time.
“We have some special people out there doing their best to show gratitude and love, Thank you for your kindness and to the truckers a special Thank you for your service and what you have to put up with! Much appreciation and love for all of you!” one person commented.
This is the time to come together
We’re proud of Mike and all truckers out there who work hard to keep us supplied during the coronavirus pandemic. By showing solidarity, we can overcome the pandemic and emerge stronger from this crisis that affects us all.
