Anything can ruin your wedding day. A misunderstanding with the wedding planner, the makeup artist or the photographer, a quarrel with your spouse-to-be, or some guest who happens to drink too much and start acting weird.

But a wave crashing a wedding? How often does that happen?

A young couple who was celebrating their marriage in Hawaii a few days ago had their wedding reception crashed by a giant wave that flooded the whole reception spot by the sea.

You see, at the time, tropical storm Darby off Mexico’s Pacific was happening, causing severe damage to buildings in coastal areas around.

One of the affected areas was Kailua, Hawaii, where the wedding reception was taking place.

Luckily, as the newlyweds Dillon and Riley Murphy told Inside Edition, no guest suffered injuries and the cake was not destroyed.

“It delayed everything just a little bit, but the show still went on, and the ceremony happened,” the bride said. “The cake was saved, which was awesome, we were really excited about that,” she added.

As the couple told in an interview with CNN, what was affected by the wave was the back-up bar. You see, on the other side, there were 200 people getting ready for the ceremony.

The newlyweds explained that there was no food on the tables yet, which would have been a shame if there had been, and they were lucky enough to save the cake too!

In any case, the couple and the guests were not gotten down – not for a second. After a quick clean-up, things were back in place and everyone just acted as if the wave had never flooded them or as if they were not soaking wet already.

But besides the back-up bar, the dance floor was also washed away by the giant wave.

“The other thing that kind of went underwater was our dance floor and some of our reception tables,” Dillon said. “They took all that to the other side and fortunately we were able to have a party and still be able to dance.”

They danced all night on the grass and in the mud, but they didn’t care or lose their enthusiasm one bit.

As Riley said, the wave just made their wedding even more memorable and special.

Moreover, the couple said that the wave actually brought everyone even closer and united them in a unique way.

“And just the analogy of, you know, life and storms hit. And it’s just, it’s so important to come together and to have all of our family and our loved ones there and it just made it very special,” Riley said.

The video of the wave washing away the decoration and tables has gone viral on social media and people are admiring the couple for being able to keep it together and see the positive side of the incident.
