When you look through the celebrity magazines, it’s always “who’s divorcing who” or “who’s dating who.” However, there’s one Hollywood couple whose marriage is stronger than ever — Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
The adorable Hollywood power couple has been married for 29 years and they are is in love today, as the day they first met. Hanks met his beautiful wife on the set of the 1985 comedy ‘Volunteers.’ Just three years later, the two were married — the rest is history.
So, Tom Hanks, what’s the ultimate secret to your happy and long-lasting marriage? Well, he says it’s come down to a few crucial things. He explains them to ET Online.
“When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of a, ‘Hey, this is the place!’ I felt that anyway,” Hanks told ET Online. “I think the end result is that we got married for all the right reasons.”
The loving couple has been with each other through thick and thin — including Rita Wilson’s recent battle with breast cancer.
“You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this,” she told the New York Times. “I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me… who knew it would make you even closer?”
Wilson underwent a double mastectomy and was able to catch the cancer early on; she is now thankfully cancer-free without any radiation or chemotherapy. When the lovable Tom Hanks elaborated further about the adoration he has for his wife, he had nothing but incredible things to say.
“We just like each other. You start there,” Hanks said. “Life is one thing after another and it’s actually more pleasant to be able to go home with someone you like to spend time with in order to get with it.”
Of course, the adorable couple is very humble about their long-lasting marriage. They say that most of their friends have been married longer.
“Most of our friends have been married longer than we have,” Hanks added. “We’re kinda the young pups when it comes to it.”
So, to learn from Mr. Tom Hanks, the secret to having a loving, happy marriage is to marry for the right reasons and not only love each other — but like each other.
