It happened when he was conducting his last delivery of the night.

That’s when he spotted a 2-year-old boy in danger.

The toddler was running in the middle of a busy road at night wearing nothing but a diaper and a t-shirt.

The footage was captured on Tavares’ car camera which shows him immediately stopping his car and jumping out to run after the child while waving his arms to warn other cars.

“The drivers … [they] don’t see the boy. The boy is little little,” Tavares told Inside Edition.

Eventually, some drivers did see the boy and put their hazard lights on before pulling over to help.

Thankfully, he was able to scoop the boy up and bring him to safety.

“When the drivers stopped, I’m like, okay. I grabbed the boy in my arms, thank you God,” Tavares recalled tearing up.

Even after being rescued the boy was still fixed on his gaming tablet.

“All the time, the little boy on the game tablet,” he said.

Tavares’ son Igor said he was extremely proud of his dad for reacting so quickly.

“It was a fast reaction. Just the way I expect my dad to be. You know, my hero. I love this guy,” Igor said, grabbing his dad for a kiss.

But Tavares said that he is no hero and that “God is the hero.”

“You were the right guy at the right place, doing the right thing,” he told his father, according to WDBJ7.

Los Angeles Police didn’t immediately know how the boy ended up in the road, but Tavares said that he was distracted by a game tablet.

Police were able to locate the boy’s guardians and return him home.

The Department of Children and Family Services said they will investigate the matter to find out if they need to take further action.

“Something bad could have happened,” Igor Tavares said. “Thank God it didn’t.”

The story of Tavares’ rescue ended up going viral.

“Oh my goodness. Praise God the little boy wasn’t injured or hit by a car. There was a reason why this gentleman took one last order. If not for him, who knows what would’ve happened to the little boy. Also, who knows if this has happened before. But I hope not. Bless this man,” wrote one commenter on YouTube.
