Trailer life is all about life on the road, and with how pricey real estate can be, some folks can’t be blamed for their crafty and creative solutions to finding a place to live.
Sharon’s trailer home is compact and mobile. It’s also rather fun-sized compared to a typical trailer home.
Costing her $15,000 (with the taxes added, of course), it’s a teeny, tiny fraction of what a piece of real estate would cost. It’s also just a little bit heavier than a typical economy car. The TAB Teardrop trailer’s main purpose is for camping, so a bit of modification for full-time living wasn’t too hard.
Adjusting to this, admittedly, small living space took a while. But thanks to her not-so-tall stature, she can stand totally upright inside of it. This is especially important for the shower – something the former pharmacist gave a lot of priority to.
The highest point on the inside is about enough for a 5’9 person. So if you’re shorter than that, you should be fine!
“I’m not that tall so I can stand up everywhere in it.”
The T@B trailer is light enough to be hauled around by her trusty Jeep Wrangler. In fact, it’s so light that she even remarks that it’s almost like it’s not there. Her Jeep isn’t even a heavy-hauling vehicle by most standards, owing to just how light the trailer is.
“Like it’s not even there” is hardly an exaggeration either. Going into a bit more detail, Sharon says that she often feels like she’s driving just the jeep, and gets quite the occasional wake-up call when she looks behind her.
So it’s that light, huh?
Power is provided by solar panels, small enough to fold up and be kept inside. With just one person living in there, that should hardly be a problem.
The non-intrusive nature of the solar panels works perfectly for the compactness of the trailer. Plus, it never hurts to generate your own power!
Inside is a small kitchen, but a totally functional one. The whole package is here – fridge, sink, and stove. They run on propane or battery power (she much prefers the former). As far as heating goes, there’s also the option to use the furnace that came with the trailer.
Sharon does most of her cooking outside. Don’t expect her to be hosting any dinners inside there!
It’s not a home without a place to sleep, and her bed and workstation all nicely fit in the back. Natural light comes from a window she has, and it makes a remarkable difference.
“I would not wanna be in a little dark trailer. That just would make me crazy.”
She managed to fit all of this with just about 12 feet of trailer space, more or less the size of a small room.
Unlike a small room, though, she’s got it on wheels and can take it wherever she wants to.
After living in houses, condos, and apartment spaces, Sharon described her new life in a trailer to be a rather liberating experience. “I’ve never looked back,” she says.
Home is where your heart is, and this woman decided on taking her heart on the road.
We all like seeing unconventional homes, and this one is definitely going on the list. Sharon’s trailer is a superb demonstration of making the most with the space you have.
