There comes a time in your life when you start to realize your mortality, and the importance of living life to the fullest while you can.
Whether that means traveling the world, asking a long-time friend on a date, or just eating the damn cake.
There are plenty of things we’ll do when we remember how short and precious life is.
Many of us have thought fleetingly of how we’d look back on our lives once we hit old age.
You might want to think fondly of the beautiful family you raised, the business you ran by yourself, or the countries you visited in your wilder days.
But have you ever wondered what your elderly grandparents or friends actually think about the lives they’ve led?
According to the latest estimates, there are more than 93,927 centenarians living in the US.
Centenarians – people who live past 100 – definitely have plenty of life experience to speak from.
So it’s worth sitting down and watching this full video, entitled “Life Lessons From 100-Year-Olds”.
You might even want to take notes.
The first person interviewed says he’s done all he wanted to do. His primary goal now is to “be helpful and keep going”.
Cliff Crozier was born in 1915. At the time of filming, Cliff was 101 years of age, and had been retired for 38 years.
What keeps Cliff going? Well, he believes that age is just a number. He also admits that “a spot of whisky occasionally helps”.
The second person interviewed says she has many fond memories to look back on.
Emelia Tereza Harper was born in 1913, and, at the time of filming, was 103 years old. She says she’s always been lucky, and 3 is her lucky number.
As a very positive person, Emelia says that everything makes her happy, from talking to people to going shopping.
Again, Emelia says that she’s done “practically everything” that she wanted to do in the past, and now, she’s content.
102-year-old John Denerley is the third person interviewed.
Born in 1914, John says he’s had a “relatively easy” life, though he admits that he wasted a lot of time in his childhood listening to jazz bands.
They might be older than 100, but Cliff, Emelia and John all agree that they don’t feel much older than they did in their seventies or eighties.
Emelia believes she’s strong now because of the home-grown food her mother cooked for her.
Talking about their partners, the interviewees looked back fondly on the memories they have.
Cliff says that while he did have relationship problems, he and his wife got through them. He added that people “give up too easily” nowadays.
When asked if they have any regrets, Emelia said no. John said that he wished he’d studied harder, and Cliff talked of a time that his dad drove up to collect him at college, but he’d wanted to stay with his friends.
He said he regretted not taking up his dad’s offer after he’d made the time to drive to him.
