We hate dealing with bad hair days. But as bad as they can be, at least we have hair. It’s a privilege we take for granted, and some people aren’t as lucky.
Male pattern baldness is a fairly common condition that many men suffer from. When it starts, there’s little you can do to stop it. While it does very little harm physically, it’s the toll it takes on your self esteem and mental health that hurts.
This barber in Texas has been tackling baldness in the African-American community with an innovative solution.

Meet Adrin, a barber who does more than just remove hair.
Adrin is a magician just as much as he’s a barber. His skill and craftsmanship have allowed numerous customers to get their confidence and their lives back. But what exactly does he do?
Like I said, Adrin doesn’t just remove hair. He can give you a new hairstyle too, even if you don’t have any.
Adrin makes hyper-realistic artificial weaves and dreads with tools and skills he’s mastered – all to help people suffering from baldness.

And watching him do it is surreal. The barber works like an artist. He carefully plans it out and goes step by step until he makes a masterpiece.
It all starts with drawing the hairline. Adrin uses a white pencil to mark down the hairline. He says, “Because once you put the glue and the hair down, you really can’t move it.”
Adrin’s been doing this for 3 years now. He knows all the do’s, don’ts, and nuances of the unique skill he’s built.
He then polishes the scalp with alcohol to make things as smooth to work with as possible.

Everything from the main hairline to the other roots and growth spots get marked down with a pencil and air glue.
To let the glue dry, Adrin uses a blow dryer. He uses brushes to spread the glue.

In case you didn’t notice, none of the tools he uses are fancy or strange. They’re all things you’d have on you at the barber shop or a salon.
Adrin will then fit a stocking cap over the customer’s head for the hair and stuff to glue onto.
The stocking caps he chooses are very durable and can withstand a ton of heat and perspiration. Just the kind of qualities for a task like this.
For artificial dreadlocks, Adrin lays them down in such a way that the frayed ends of the dreadlocks stick out and along the hairline. This makes it look way more realistic and simulates how they would actually grow.

It also ends up being more realistic when he cuts them later.
The dreadlocks sit on a base made from a fabric mesh. Adrin uses strong black glue for this one since a head full of dreadlocks can get very heavy.

These “units” that Adrin makes can last anywhere from a week to 2 months or so.
When the time comes that the unit is beginning to wear and tear, Adrin can just fix them up a new one. That’s about the same time interval for people to get normal haircuts anyway.
Adrin’s work is spectacular and a gift to the many people in his community suffering from hair loss. Thanks to a barber with a master artist’s touch, they can get their lives and their confidence back.

Many of his customers hug him, give him the biggest of smiles, and even cry.
Some commenters have joked that Adrin must be the barber in the GTA games (who could magically restore the player’s hair into a full afro or mane even if you had no hair prior). Well, he does work magic in his own way.
