Youth is not wasted on the young, despite what people say. More than their fun-loving approach to life and the curiosity that leads them to adventures and lessons, the youth have remarkable ways of touching lives and inspiring those around them. Who would have thought all those late nights come with opportunities to help out?
A group of teenagers was headed to a nearby donut shop when they saw a woman stuck on the side of the road, smoke coming out of her car. The trio, Aeron McQuillin, Bailey Campbell, and Billy Tarbett, were close to Tim Horton’s when they spotted her and realized she badly needed help.
Experienced with cars, they were able to identify the root of the problem: a leak that caused engine coolant and oil to mix, presenting a tremendous risk should the woman insist on driving home. She couldn’t afford a tow truck, either, but she sure wasn’t expecting the next decision from the boys.
They decided to push the car all the way to the motorist’s home despite it being more than five miles away.
It turned into a fun walk for the friends, too. With bottles of water and a speaker, they were able to push the car while talking and enjoying music.
Another individual named Dan Morrison decided to help out, too.
He drove slowly behind them with his headlights on so they could walk safely, guided with bright lights. Initially, he thought the teenagers were ridiculous for wanting to push a car for more than five miles, but he saw their compassion and determination to help, and his admiration for them grew.
In a Facebook post, he shared,
“Last night, I am driving home from work when I see someone stranded in the middle of an intersection with their car smoking. I have been there, and it really sucks. So I slow down, ask if they are alright. The poor lady got this car six weeks ago, and it now looks like it needs a new engine. So a group of 3 teenagers now stop, look over the car, and help push it into a nearby lot. The owner of the car does not know what to do. She cannot afford a tow and can’t leave the car there. I then hear, ‘You boys ready for a push?’ They couldn’t leave this lady stranded, so these young men pushed a stranger’s car… 9k km.”
One of the teenagers, Aeron McQuillin, also shared the story on his Facebook page.
“We finally made it to our destination after over an hour and a half of pushing. The next morning, we all woke up to our phones blowing up with messages and Facebook notifications from total strangers, showing their appreciation and gratitude for our random act of kindness. On behalf of Bailey, Billy, and myself, thank you so much to everyone for the kind words and offers of gifts.”
It doesn’t take much to reach out and make someone’s day better.
A simple act of kindness could be the very thing that gives hope and reminds people there are still good things to look forward to. You never know how greatly you can impact someone’s life with a kind smile, a thoughtful gesture, or comforting words.
Thanks to these teenagers for reminding us that it costs nothing to spread love and compassion!
