In this day and age, it’s so easy for us to be caught up in our own businesses that we forget to do one important thing as humans – to look after one another.

In Caldwell, Idaho five best friends sat inside The Sweet Spot Bakery, a local shop in their neighborhood. The owner of the shop decided to treat the boys with cupcakes and cookies because of what she saw on Facebook.

So what did these boys do to deserve these home-baked goodies?

These teenagers, Victor Ornelas, Isaac Hernandez, Diego Ramirez, Devan Ornelas, and Josh Sorg were driving to their friend’s house to play basketball. On the way, they saw an elderly man in a walker shambling on the side of the road.

They were about to pass him when the man suddenly fell.

With his walker far from his reach, the man couldn’t lift himself up to stand.

It could’ve been easier for them to just drive on through and think that someone else was going to help the man. But instead of waiting for action, these teenagers decided to step up. Hernandez stepped on the brakes.

The best part about their reaction is that it was not only Hernandez who felt the need to help. All five of them got out of the car and ran to the elderly man’s rescue.

“We parked and we all ran out. We picked him up and we asked if he was okay, he said he was fine,” Hernandez shared with KTVB 7. “So we just kept walking with him. We said we were going to walk him all the way to his house. We helped him inside, and his knee was bleeding. So, we grabbed napkins put alcohol on it and cleaned him up.”

The boys did not just assist the elderly man to his house.

They also made sure that he was okay and checked him for other injuries and cleaned his wounds.

Jose Gomez, the elderly man the boys helped that day, was so grateful for the boys and what they did. They were definitely in the right place at the right time and did the right thing when they found it necessary.

“I was just falling down I don’t know what happened. They picked me up. I was walking just right and then sadly I went down, and they come up and say hey, want us to take you home and I said okay, let’s go. It made me feel good,” Gomez shared with the news outlet.

The amazing story could’ve ended there but fate has other plans.

Unbeknownst to the boys, a passerby captured their good deed and posted it on Facebook. The post was viewed and shared, and soon enough, Caldwell was well aware of what the boys did.

Kathy Plaisance, the owner of The Sweet Spot Bakery, saw the post and invited the boys for some bakery treats. But it wasn’t only Plaisance who appreciated what the boys did.

Support from local businesses from Caldwell poured in from free meals to free haircuts.

While these teenagers are enjoying their community’s recognition for their deeds, it’s comforting to know that there are still people out there who are willing to do the right thing – even if there’s no one watching.
