It’s easy to lose your faith in humanity.

With all of the unfortunate happenings of the world, it can really feel like you lose a bit of faith each day. But before you throw in the towel, consider that there is also a lot of good out there too. Even though it may be difficult to see sometimes, all you have to do is look a little closer.

The cool thing about it? You likely don’t have to look very far. There are plenty of good deeds happening around you every day.

That is a lesson 14-year-old twins, Makhia and Makyla Vincent, from Detroit, showed us recently.

The twins were walking when they stumbled across a wallet under a blanket of snow. Inside was over $200, credit cards, and a military id card. Upon coming across the id, the twins set out on a mission to find and return the wallet to its rightful owner.

Although I’m certain the twins would have returned the wallet to its owner regardless of whether they were a veteran or not, they said seeing that card reminded them of their grandfather, who is a veteran as well.

“I read the veteran’s card and it was like, ‘veteran,’ and I would hate if that was my grandad and it happened to him so I was like, ‘we need to return it,'” Makayla told Fox 2 Detroit.

Makhia shared her thoughts as well.

“That would be wrong to take someone’s wallet, especially when you know who the rightful owner is and where you can find them.”

We couldn’t agree more!

The girls tracked down the house and knocked on the door. When nobody answered they decided to hold the wallet up to the security camera to show the owner that they were returning the wallet. Then, they set it down on a step on the front door.

The rightful owner of that wallet was a disabled young man named Marc Walsh. He spoke with Lightworks and explained what losing the wallet meant to him.

“I was really distraught. I’m self-employed and I don’t make a ton of money.

…so having cash in there that I needed and not having it… I was pretty torn up about it.”

When Walsh returned home, he was told that his wallet had been returned. Happy and grateful, he wanted to find out who it was. So he turned to the security camera and reached out to Fox 2 Detroit.

They were able to locate the twins and they agreed to meet with Walsh. It was such a sweet moment. He was able to thank both of them in person and express his gratitude.

“I’m so incredibly grateful, just so incredibly grateful and humbled,” he said. “It renews my faith in humanity, it really does.”

After hugs and an exchange of kind words, Walsh gave the twins the money that was in the wallet as a big thank you. The twins were grateful but to them, it wasn’t about the money. It was simply about doing what was right.

“Basically, you just have to make the right decision,” Makayla said. “We knew we had to return the wallet to the rightful person.”

Way to go ladies! I think it’s safe to say that you’re both helping to restore people’s faith in humanity!
