Student Ran Ginrui immediately knew that something wasn’t right.

The little boy sitting on his skateboard coming down an 80-meter-long slope was going way too fast.

He sensed that it was a potentially dangerous situation. That’s why the 17-year-old didn’t hesitate to risk injury to himself to save the 5-year-old boy from flying into the busy road below him.

“[the boy] kept hurtling down, so I ran to catch him. If I hadn’t pulled him, he would have sustained injuries more serious thdan mine,” Ran told Southern China Post.

Ran, a student at Longlin Vocational Technical Secondary School, was walking back to school through the city of Baise in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China when he spotted the boy.

He knew the boy was going too fast to stop and that he could very well get hit by a car if he continued on into traffic.

So, Ran used his own body to stop the boy. He leapt in front of the child on the speeding skateboard and grabbed him with his arms.

The impact made Ran spin around and fall over. When Ran released his grip on the boy, he kept sliding down on his skateboard.

So, Ran had to get up and run to catch the boy to stop him for good.

Thankfully, the little boy was fine. He just stood up, picked up his skateboard, and walked away.

The same couldn’t be said for Ran. He had scrapes all over his elbow and knees.

But that didn’t seem to matter much to Ran.

“I just did the best I could within my ability,” Ran told The Star. “I believe everybody else would do the same thing in this situation.”
