The day’s work was done but Logan Schneider never thought he would experience anything like it.
He was already packing up for the day at his family’s cherry farm 12 miles north of Wenatchee, Washington on his tractor when this unthinkable moment happened.
A helicopter fell from the sky.
It hit the powerlines and landed on his tractor.
“I was pinned against the steering wheel, stuck with the nose of the helicopter sitting right behind me,” Logan shared.
What would you have done? Logan didn’t have time to think when it all happened. He immediately tried to get out of the wreckage to save himself.
But then when he looked up, he saw the pilot hanging upside down from his harness.
“I heard him screaming,” Logan recalled. “I looked and I saw him upside down hanging. Fire was everywhere. When I was in the moment I really wasn’t thinking. I was just doing.”
And it’s a good thing Logan reacted to the situation instead of just panicking. Or the pilot and Logan as well would have gotten more injuries.
Logan became a hero.
Logan, with his quick thinking and quick actions, was able to free the pilot.
And they only got minor injuries, which is such a blessing considering there was a lot of fire.
When the fire was put out, they saw his tractor burnt and the helicopter in shambles.
It’s a miracle they only received minor injuries during this freak accident.
“The odds of getting hit by a falling helicopter are astronomical, let alone getting hit by one and walking away,” Bendigo couldn’t help but comment when he watched the news story.
Because it is true.
The odds of just walking away from an incident like that are very low. Logan knows that as well.
“I feel like I always have someone watching over me, God watching over me, protecting me. And you never know when it could be your last moment,” Logan shared.
And he took advantage of the good fortune.
He bought a lottery ticket.
He won two bucks! In some ways, Logan felt the incident wasn’t a coincidence either and there might be a reason for it.
He found out that he and the pilot share the same birthday. Plus Logan actually wants to become a pilot.
In fact, he’s attending flight school when the fall season starts.
It’s hard to believe this incident happened to a teenager whose first instinct was to do instead of run or panic.
“What a great kid. Working hard, respectful, jumping into action when someone’s life is on the line. Sometimes people disparage teenagers, but then there’s this guy! Great work, good luck on becoming a pilot,” VesperAegis News & Games wrote, astounded at what happened.
And, with what happened, we know, if we do get on the plane Logan flies eventually, we’ll be in safe hands. Don’t you think so?
