It’s not easy to stay calm during stressful moments.
Many people can surely attest to that.
Because we’ve all been there, right?
What if you’re in the middle of a life threatening situation?
It’s definitely unimaginable.
The stress would be off the charts, making it incredibly difficult to keep your cool.
Harvey Shelton, a high school student, sadly went through such a traumatic experience.
It happened one time when he was driving on his way home.
At that time, he found himself trailing a white Jeep on the road.
Suddenly, without warning, the Jeep veered out of its lane.
Ahead, a massive semi-truck with flashing caution lights came into view.
Panic set in as he desperately tried to maneuver his car out of harm’s way.
Right then and there, the tragic accident happened.
Harvey recalls what he did after the accident.
He found himself helpless and pinned in his car.
According to him, he tried to yell for help, hoping someone would hear his plea.
It was surely a scary and painful moment physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Thankfully, a stranger came to help him in the most touching way.
It was a guy who didn’t have the tools and equipment to rescue Harvey from his dangerous state.
Instead, all he had was his kind heart and eagerness to help.
He made sure to uplift Harvey’s spirits and tried to comfort him while enduring all the pain.
“He grabbed my hand and said ‘I am here. I am going to stay here until the fire department gets here’,” Harvey recalled.
“He just kept saying ‘I am here. I am praying for you. They will be here soon’,” he further stated.
Mauzie Shelton, Harvey’s dad, shared the story of his son on Facebook.
He then described his son’s heartbreaking situation when he was trying to ask for help.
Aside from that, he also expressed his gratitude for the stranger.
Mauzie recognized the kindness bestowed upon his son, which has left an indelible mark on their lives.
“Our son Harvey and we would like to thank you for your unconditional compassion. You didn’t have to stop, you didn’t have to wait, and you didn’t have to hold his hand so he wouldn’t be alone but you did! And for that we will be forever grateful,” he wrote.
When Harvey faced the accident, he was also not able to attend his graduation ceremony.
This is surely a heartbreaking moment for any student who eagerly anticipates that special day.
Thankfully, Harvey’s school, Maumelle High School, still gave him a chance to celebrate it by organizing a shorter, yet meaningful, graduation ceremony.
What made it even more special is the person who help him deal with the aftermath of his accident attended the ceremony.
At that moment, Harvey’s heart overflowed with happiness.
Three incredible things converged to create his joy: he finally graduated, surpassed the accident that could have taken his life, and he met the person whose kindness had made a lasting impact on him.
It was a day of celebration, marking not only his academic achievement but also his victory over adversity.
It’s also commendable how he appreciated the kindness of the man who helped him.
