Let’s take a walk down memory lane, way back to when we were in high school.

So many things made us excited – from our first day in freshman year to our senior graduation. There were also fun (but also nerve-wracking) moments in between.

But what is high school without prom, am I right?

Most students look forward to this day. The glitz and the glamor of the event and the sweet moment your crush asks you to be their date. The music, the lights, the decors, and the party atmosphere – what’s not to love?

However, this is also a high-pressure school event.

Everyone wants to look and feel good for their prom.

Addi Rust was like all the other high school students.

She was looking forward to prom and even knew the look she wanted for that night. However, she couldn’t afford to buy or rent the dress she had been eyeing for months.

So, she jokingly told her prom date to make one for her.

Parker Smith was with her many times as they went and checked Addi’s favorite dress. When she told her that, they laughed it off, thinking it’s a lot of work for Parker, and he’s never even made a dress before.

But Parker thought about it and said:

“You know what, I think I could actually make your prom dress.”

And so, he did. Little by little, he took his progress in small strides and made sure the dress was perfect for his prom date.

He sketched the design of the dress and worked on it for months.

The crazy thing about this was Parker was entirely self-taught! He learned how to cut, sew, and piece together his creation by himself – plus some valuable tips from his grandma here and there.

The perfectionist in him seemed to delay the entire process.

As much as he wanted to finish the dress earlier, he made many iterations on his creation because he wanted it to be perfect for Addi. He did so meticulously that he was still stitching and adding more stones on the dress even up to the night before their prom.

Prom night came, and Parker brought his handmade creation to Addi – and she was in awe.

Though Addi had a glimpse of the dress before that night (since she was involved throughout the design process), she couldn’t help but cry when she saw the finished product for the first time.

Both Parker and Addi shared the lovely dress on their respective social media accounts.

Their posts instantly went viral because of two things. One, Parker’s creation is just beautiful! And two, the bond and friendship these two had shown how far our love for each other could go.

And yes, even if it meant creating the dress from scratch.
