With no driver in sight, the vehicle, carrying about 20 students from Casino High School, started moving ominously towards a nearby petrol station.

Amidst the rising panic, 14-year-old Izzy Miller, a 9th grade student, stood out.
She quickly realized that with no one at the wheel, it was up to her to avert the impending crisis.
In a split second, Izzy made a decision that would mark her as a hero in the eyes of her community and beyond.
Demonstrating remarkable courage and presence of mind, Izzy leapt into action.
She raced to the driver’s seat, her focus solely on stopping the runaway bus.

Izzy told ABC News:
“It was heading near the petrol tank and no one was doing anything so I jumped up, got into action and steered it away. If I didn’t do anything about it, something really bad could have happened to the kids.”

Izzy’s mom Rebecca told the news outlet:
“The [school] principal said that if Izzy hadn’t acted the way she did that day, he would have been making some very different phone calls.”
