And it’s even more special when the university of your dreams is one of the ten hardest colleges to get into.

In this case, we’re talking about Harvard University, which is number three on that list, with an acceptance rate of only 4%.

When Isabela Gonzalez was only eight years old, she used to tell everyone that one day she’d like to go to Harvard. At that time, nobody really took her seriously. After all, what kid doesn’t want to study at a prestigious university?

After all, Harvard is the university most students would like to study at. With all the history that it carries, with the broad programs it teaches, the amazing campus, and the top professors, it is every student’s first choice. But only a few end up applying because they know the chances of getting accepted are really low.

And then the years passed, and Gonzalez reached high school. Her dream was still to study Political Science at Harvard, although by that time, she had realized how much work and study this translated into.

And the time came for her to apply. But, right at the time when she was ready to apply to the university of her dreams, fear prevailed over confidence, and she decided not to do it.

Luckily, her teacher made her change her mind with an unorthodox argument.

“I was like, ‘By the way, we’re not applying to Harvard.’ And he was like, I’m not writing any recommendations if you don’t apply to Harvard, and I’m like, ‘You can’t do that.’ And he was like, ‘Yes, I can,'” Gonzalez told CBS News.

When he told her that he wouldn’t write any recommendation letter for her unless she applied to Harvard, she changed her mind and decided to give it a try. After all, it was her dream and she shouldn’t just let it slip away because of her being afraid of rejection.

So, she went on to write an essay with the title “Taking out the Trash”, in which she explained the challenges young people who live in the inner city face.

“I talked about how, you know, when you grow up in the inner city, lot of people will throw you out because they don’t feel that you’re good enough because they have this preconceived idea you’re on the streets, or you’re doing drugs, or you’re not a good person,” said Gonzalez, who has a 4.9 GPA.

Then, she was called for an interview by the university, and, after that, she spent days waiting for an email.

When the email came, she was in the car and she decided to film the moment.

Her face, when she reads that she has been accepted, is priceless.

Today, thanks to her skills, her dedication, and her teacher who pushed her when she was about to give up, she’s officially on her way to Harvard with a full-ride scholarship.
