Imagine being out fishing for a big catch and instead you reel in a wallet bursting with cash.
That’s exactly what happened to a high school freshman from Minnesota this summer.
Connor Halsa, just 14, was out fishing with his family at Lake of the Woods when he made this unexpected discovery.
“My cousin opened the wallet up, and he said some words you probably shouldn’t say, and he showed everyone,” Connor shared with a hint of amusement.
Inside the wallet? A whopping $2,000 and a business card with a phone number.
Now, most of us might be tempted to keep such a find, but not Connor.
His dad suggested returning the wallet to its rightful owner, and Connor was on board.
“We didn’t work hard for the money, he did, so it was his money,” the young man wisely remarked.
With the help of the business card, the Halsa family tracked down the wallet’s owner.
His name is Jim Denney from Iowa.
He had lost the wallet a year ago while fishing at the very same lake. Talk about a long-lost item making its way back!
But the story doesn’t end there.
Grateful for the return of his wallet, Jim wanted to reward the Halsa family.
He tried offering them some cash, but they declined.
Instead, as a token of his appreciation, Jim gifted Connor a brand-new cooler.
And he had some heartwarming words for the teen: “I would take Connor as a grandson any day.”
To make it even more special, Jim treated the entire Halsa family to a delightful dinner.
A gesture that surely made the day memorable for everyone involved.
Reflecting on the entire experience, Jim was still in awe.
Holding onto his returned wallet, he said, “I have the billfold in my hands, and it is still hard to believe.”
