If you think treasure hunting is a thing of the past, then you are mistaken. This activity is still very popular these days, but the methods are different and there is no need to spend a lot of money or hire a lot of people to find a treasure that can change your life.
One of the most popular ways that people find valuables or treasures these days is by using fishing magnets.
Magnets used for these activities are not regular or small magnets, although they are also not too big that people won’t be able to use them by themselves. Various channels on YouTube are in this niche and they are followed by thousands of subscribers and viewed millions of times.
These magnet fishers find all kinds of unusual stuff underwater. With the use of powerful magnets, some find all bicycles underwater and even World War 1 mortar grenades!
It can also help in finding relevant items that were thrown underwater such as murder weapons discarded in rivers. Finding these things thru magnet fishing also benefits the police and law enforcement agencies.
One of the YouTube channels that focuses on magnet fishing is Magnetic g.
15-year-old George Tindale and his father, 52-year-old Kevin, live in Grantham, Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom. They manage a YouTube channel wherein they go looking for valuable and unusual stuff underwater using their powerful magnet.
On one of their episodes, they featured the time when they caught a rather heavy metal box from under the River Witham. They had two magnets for fishing and these helped them in getting the body out of the water.
As it turned out, the heavy metal box was a safe.
Upon getting the mysterious metal box, father and son proceeded to open it with a crowbar. What they saw inside shocked them.
Inside the safe is $2,500 Australian dollars which is equivalent to US$ 1,800. It also had other documents inside which were composed of a shotgun certificate, and credit cards that expired in 2004.
With the use of these items, George and Kevin were able to track the owner of the safe whose name is Rob Everett.
They contacted the man and found out that Rob runs Winkworth and the Money Options Group in Grantham. The Tindales confirmed the ownership of the safe, and after verifying that he does own the box, they visited Rob to return the money.
Upon connecting with Rob, George and his parents found out how the safe got underwater at the River Witham. Back in 2000, the safe was stolen during a robbery at the office. It was eventually thrown out into the river.
“I remember at the time, they smashed into a cabinet to get to the safe. I was just upset that there was a nice pen on my desk, a Montblanc that was never recovered,” Rob Everett shared.
Rob appreciates the honesty of the Tindales and as a reward, he gave a gift to George as a token of his gratitude.
“Some people are just wonderful. They’ve gone to all that trouble. I gave a small reward to George. What’s good about it is George is a good mathematician apparently, and I run a wealth management company now, and I’ve offered him work experience when he’s ready to give him something back, give him some opportunity. I’d love him to work for us. He’s only 15 but give him a bit more time and I’d be happy to give him an opportunity,” Rob shared.
It has been 22 years since the box was stolen, and after such a long time, he did not expect to find it again.
Receiving it from a kind-hearted family who chose to do what’s right inspired Rob and made him believe that kindness still exists in the world.
“I was just amazed that they’d been able to track me down. There are some really nice and good people in this world. They could have kept the money, they could have said they attempted to get hold of me,” he said.
Truly, it is amazing to know that George and his family were able to do the right thing. The money they found is not a small amount at all, but it is very heartwarming to know that this family is honest and kind.
