Have you ever seen someone with a unique talent that you’ve never seen before? Or are you the one that wows people with your exceptional talent?

This teenage girl has received millions of views across multiple platforms on a video of her delaying her voice.

At first it seems like some kind of trick—you see her mouth move, and then a second later, you hear her say, “hi.”

Her name is Gracie, and she is not a professional illusionist. She’s just a girl that taught herself a cool trick!

There are no sound effects, editing, or anyone else in the room to perform the trick. In a second TikTok video, Gracie explains how she does it.

Like a ventriloquist, Gracie can talk without moving her lips!

Unlike a ventriloquist, she does not rely on a puppet or prop but uses her skill to make it seem like she is delaying her voice.

It is not as easy as she makes it out to be! We dare you to try for yourself. She recommends using words that don’t make your lips touch.

Stand in front of a mirror, mouth the word “hi,” and then try to say it right after without moving your mouth. It’s hard!

Gracie does the trick seamlessly, but it’s challenging to connect the two parts without fumbling or making it obvious.

Maybe the best part of the video is Gracie’s excitement for the skill she taught herself. From the moment the video starts to the end, she is giddy with delight. It is infectious happiness that people in the comments can’t help but share.

Ventriloquism has been around for centuries. Once used in religious practices, it became entertainment in the 17th century. Since then, this art has gone through waves of popularity.

Ventriloquists have been on television since the 1950s; some of the most popular performers throughout history include Edgar Bergen, Paul Winchell, Shari Lewis, and Willie Tyler.

In the 21st century, there has been a rise of ventriloquists finding success through television programs like the international Got Talent franchise.

Names like Jeff Dunham, Terry Fator, and Darci Lynne are among the most popular.

Puppetry, as seen on Sesame Street, is not to be confused with ventriloquism—although they both utilize puppets in their craft.

The International Ventriloquist Society clarifies the difference between the two:

“The puppeteer moves their lips and doesn’t necessarily interact with the puppet.”

In a ventriloquist performance, there is a back and forth between the person and the puppet, allowing for a unique comedy genre.

Some performers like Darci Lynne perform songs with their puppets, which is pretty amazing to see!

In Gracie’s case, she is both the ventriloquist and the puppet, giving off a unique effect.

When watching the video of her delaying her voice, it is almost as if there is a lag between the video and audio. If she didn’t talk in the normal manner in the video, you might think your internet is slow!

Toward the end of the video, Gracie says she’s not that good with ventriloquism, but we disagree!

With more practice, we can see Gracie performing more than just one word at a time. With her enthusiasm, she is sure to go far!
