He didn't do what he did for recognition but the community was determined to give it to him anyway.

East Idaho News is committed to surprising deserving people in the community every week during Feel Good Friday.

But, what makes someone “deserving”?

It’s all about what they do for those around them.

Anyone can be nominated as long as they have done something special for the community or a community member.

Recently, it was a teen’s turn.

A 16-year-old boy from Blackfoot made the people around him proud of him when they found out about his act of generosity.

You see, Dallin Polatis, a student at Snake River High School, bought a guitar for his friend who has Down syndrome when he realized how important that guitar was to him.

As Polatis explained, last year the other boy attended most classes online due to the pandemic, but this year, he returned to school and they became friends.

More specifically, as the boy put it, his new friend “followed him everywhere”, which Polatis found cute.

The two boys came closer when they discovered they had something in common.

A shared love of music.

In particular, Polatis plays the electric guitar and his friend really wanted one as a Christmas gift.

It was pretty much all he could talk about before the holiday break.

However, when they got back to school after the holidays, Dallin noticed his friend was sad.

Soon he found out it was all because of the fact that he didn’t get an electric guitar as a gift for Christmas.

But it wasn’t too late.

Dallin, for some reason, felt the urge to buy his friend the guitar he had been wanting for such a long time.

So, he went to Snake River Strings Co. in Blackfoot, where he also attends guitar classes,

There, he bought a beautiful guitar for his friend, along with an amp and a cord with cash.

A value of over $300.

The boy didn’t tell his friends or his parents about it, but he happened to tell the story to his guitar teacher.

That’s when the teacher knew that the boy should be nominated for Feel Good Friday.

Indeed, the company contacted East Idaho News, whose staff made sure the story was actually true.

A while later, Nate Eaton, arrived at the music school to surprise the boy with a handful of gift cards to some of his favorite places to eat.

But they had more to give.

The best gift of all came from Snake River Strings Co., where Dallin and his special friend were offered something incredibly valuable.

Free lessons for three months.

When Nate met with Dallin, the latter was actually practicing the guitar.

He was happy to share the story with the reporter, but everyone knew that he didn’t do what he did for the recognition.

When Nate asked him why he bought the guitar for that boy, he said that his new friend just “is so much fun and makes you smile”.

Dallin was happy to receive all the gift cards, but he was shocked when he found out he and his friend could take guitar classes for free for three months.

The video was exceptionally heartwarming.
