We’d wonder why these people were teachers that worked with children at all.
But for every story about “the mean teacher” there’s a story of a teacher who, year after year, goes above and beyond for their students inspiring their love of learning and future endeavors.
Unfortunately, many of our teachers (you know those people responsible for educating our future leaders and citizens) are poorly compensated, subject to ridiculous evaluations, and forced to teach content to prepare students for tests instead of the life.
Despite this, many teachers go well beyond their duties as an educator. Many teachers will tell you that they often have to purchase supplies for their children using money out of their own pockets.
While some teachers will help to feed and clothe some of their students and will spend hours with kids outside of regular teaching hours.
It can be downright demoralizing but most teachers don’t teach for money or high evaluation scores. They teach to have a positive impact on their students and their lives.
And once in a while, a student will make it known that their teacher is succeeding in this endeavor. That’s what happened to one Atlanta-area fifth grade teacher who found a note on his desk from a student, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
The teacher, who goes by @mainey_maine, posted a picture of the heartfelt letter on Twitter.
“So I walked in the classroom and found this letter on the desk that one of my kids wrote me and… I tried so hard not tear up,” he wrote in his Tweet, which is no longer available.
Here’s what the letter read:
“To Mr. J
Thank you for being a awesome teacher and for being amazing! This school year was so fun and I enjoyed it because of you. I wish more teachers was like you. I will never forget you. I look at you like my dad. I never met my real dad but it okay because you treat me like I’m your son. You make me so happy. Always feeding me when I am hungry and hug me when I am sad. I will never forget you Mr. J. I love you and I will never forget about you!
Love Markus”

The letter not only touched @mainey_maine’s heart but the heart of the internet as well. The tweet ended up going viral and garnered much support from fellow teachers and it was long before emotions got the best of this Atlanta teacher.
“This too much man lol I can’t stop the tears,” he Tweeted.
“I don’t know if anything can top this letter but I do know you have created a New World because you made him a New Boy..God Bless You,” said one of the commenters on Twitter.
Mainey_maine’s profile states that, “I’m just trying to make a difference,” and it looks like he’s succeeded in that.
