Teaching can be positive or negative. You probably know that teachers are not only underpaid for what they do but also unappreciated by many. Not only do they put in long hours in the classroom and at home but they also buy supplies and materials out of their own pockets.

With that kind of stress, some teachers end up doing the bare minimum, which means students don’t benefit very much. On the other hand, a lot of teachers understand the important role they play in helping kids. Those are the professionals who have a huge impact on students’ lives.

We need more inspirational stories

News outlets focus too much on bad things that happen in schools as opposed to the good. Fortunately, word recently spread about a high school teacher from Alabama. He’s a perfect example of going above and beyond for his students.

How it all started

This teacher’s name is Dominique Moore. He’s one of many educators at Bessemer City High School where he takes a genuine interest in each one of his students. He proved that point after learning that one of the teens didn’t have anyone at the graduation ceremony to support him.

Graduating is a big deal

Finishing four years of high school and then to walk across the stage in front of faculty, family, students, and friends is a huge accomplishment. It’s a time for each student to shine. But for one teen, what should’ve been a joyous occasion was a big disappointment.

After the fact

The graduation proceeded with everything in order. After the students all received their diplomas, everyone was happy and smiling. But while cleaning up, Moore noticed instead of one of his students celebrating with friends, he was just hanging out alone.

Something wasn’t right

As Moore explained about this particular teen, “I know his moods and I knew he wasn’t himself. I asked him, ‘Where are your people?’ and he was like, ‘Nobody’s here.’” Moore did his best to try to cheer the student up by saying, “I expect big things from you and it’s going to be okay.”

Additional insight

After their brief conversation, Moore discovered this teen didn’t have a ride home. So, he asked the kid if he wanted to get a bite to eat. This boy eagerly accepted. As they chatted over lunch, Moore struggled with the situation.

This wasn’t going to fly

This teacher has a heart of gold. He stated, “These situations are common to me and I handle them on my own. You don’t always have to show everybody or tell everybody when you do something but this one just didn’t set well with me. I don’t know what it was.”

He came up with a plan

Moore couldn’t just sit back and act like he didn’t know or care. While all his kids are important to him, this boy’s story touched his heart. So, he came up with a plan and set the wheels in motion. He added a Cash App ($mooredaeducator) to his Facebook post about this young man, telling people if they wanted, they could bless him with a donation.

Money came rolling in

As of today, people have gifted this teen graduate with more than $5,000. In the meantime, Moore’s generosity doesn’t stop there. He drives this boy to and from his job. He even helped him open a checking account. The teen hopes to buy a car with the money.

One very proud and humbled teacher

Moore is overjoyed with the outpouring of support. In a recent follow-up post, he stated, “He is out done at the out pour of support you all are showing.” [sic] He even admitted to almost crying because he was so happy and grateful.

Although this teenager didn’t have any support on graduation day, he sure has it now and from a lot of people who he doesn’t even know. Moore is 100 percent confident the love this kid has seen will encourage him to attend college. Of course, Moore’s biggest thanks goes to God and his beautiful wife.
