The lovebirds Chris Garth and Lauren Oiye share one huge passion together: surfing the waves. In fact, the couple even met years ago in Queens, Waikiki because of their shared love for the water.

Lauren and Chris have surfed the waves together countless times, but this time, Chris made sure to make it a very special one.

Surfing and this location, in particular, have a very special meaning for the couple, so it was only fitting for Chris to propose to her here – the exact spot where he met Lauren years ago.

Both of them are experts in surfing and feel extremely comfortable on the water, but it’s safe to say that this particular surfing trip definitely was the most nerve-wracking one that Chris has even had.

Chris arranged a date on the water with Lauren and made sure to hire a couple of photographers who would capture the magic moment forever.

The entire day, he kept a box with the ring hidden and took it in the water with him. After a couple of minutes, when both of them were able to catch a wave, Chris got on one knee and popped the question.

“This morning my best friend (Chris Garth) and I went out for a surf. Little did I know he would be asking me to be his partner for life!” Lauren wrote on her Facebook profile.

“Story time: we caught a wave together at the surf break we met at and had many of our first dates. I turn back to make sure he was on the wave with me and he was on one knee with a ring box and screamed out “Lauren, I love you! Will you marry me?!” At first I thought it was a joke and then realized it clearly wasn’t.”

Right after Lauren said yes, Chris accidentally dropped the ring right into the ocean.

Luckily, Chris anticipated that things could go wrong on the water and this was just a stand-in proposal ring. The real deal was still safe on dryer ground. Chris himself was a bit gutted that he lost the stand-in ring in the water, but Lauren actually thinks the mishap represents something beautiful.

“The ring isn’t lost to the ocean. The ring is simply our offering to the ocean for bringing us together and connecting us.”

“And of course I am beside myself that I get to spend the rest of my life with this man that I LOVE from the depths of my entire beingand makes me laugh everyday and reminds me how simple and beautiful life is.”

The amazing proposal has made local headlines in Hawaii and California.

One thing is for sure: this is most definitely one of the most unique and most daring proposals we’ve ever seen. And even though Chris was understandably nervous about Lauren’s reaction and popping the question on a surfboard, this day was absolutely amazing for both of them. And the pictures of the whole thing? They’re absolutely mesmerizing.

“Christopher Garth, I love you and am so grateful the stars aligned and our ancestors that came before us so beautifully orchestrated this for us!,” his now-fiancee told. “Here’s to a lifetime of laughter and keeping things simple and authentic!”

Congrats to the lovely couple!
