Must be fun being a substitute teacher. You never know what you’ll get so might as well have fun with the class assigned to you. And let’s face it, students love cool teachers. Teachers who go out of their way to bring smiles during those boring days.
Shianne Cluck got assigned to fifth graders. You know, those high energy, short attention span, giggly kids. So she decided to have a little fun with them.

Now every teacher knows that each class should start with attendance.
So she calls out saying,
“Okay, listen up. Whenever I say your name, just say here.”
Simple enough even for these kids.
There’s a catch. Shianne starts reading their names wrong. There’s no shot of the students so we can’t really see their reactions but I can imagine jaws dropping and heads turning to look at each other.
It starts with a kid named “Sow-low-mon”.
The kid took a few seconds to respond before correcting his sub teacher with, “Solomon”. So Shianne repeats the name just to be sure she got it right. After all, it’s a Biblical name so who knows how they used to pronounce it.
Up next is a kid named “Luck”. Huh? Who names their kid Luck?
Shianne is trying her best not to laugh at her own silliness. The kid does respond and also corrects her. It’s “Luke” apparently. Master Skywalker is not pleased.
Then there’s “Me-dey-len”. Isn’t that a city in Colombia?
What’s wrong with the teacher? She talks funny.
This one took a good five seconds. Shianne looks around the room before she gets a response. Turns out, it’s “Madalyne”. I mean she could have said so in the first place…
“Hoon-ter”?
Wait, what now? This time, Shianne let’s out a quick giggle and that was the students’ cue. They know now she’s pulling everyone’s short leg for this roll call. Yes, it’s a kid named “Hunter”.
Now who is “Ree-gan”? The mere mention of the name and her students burst out in hysterics. Poor kid, all he wanted was to be acknowledged. Little Reagan corrects his teacher gently to which Shianne smiles appreciatively.
Now it’s on. She calls out for “Ja-cob” and as if on cue, her class laughs at the mispronounced name.
She calls out a “Nich- ol” and that one burst her own bubble. Shianne smirks and snickers at her own game before a student responds. Now you can imagine how the rest of the class went.
A viewer named Becca says,
“That was so creative, she got everyone’s attention while having fun, hoonther had me in tears.”
That’s what it’s about. Creating a connection with your students while still holding the line as the figure of authority. Shianne is one of those really chill teachers. Must have been a pretty awesome class. I bet those students begged the school to make her their regular teacher.
