Losing a loved one is never an easy thing. But we get through those hard times thanks to our own inner strength and the love and support of our family and friends.
The kind words and gestures of our loved ones are often the best remedies for our sadness and resonate with us deeply.
Perhaps this is because that they too understand that sadness and we can relate to them when we experience it for ourselves. When Price Lawrence lost his father-in-law he was visibly upset at work.
His students could tell that something was wrong with him and kept asking him what it was. The sixth-grade teacher at Highlands Elementary in Huntsville, Ala. explained that he was upset because his wife’s father had died and he was really concerned about her.
The student’s offered their condolences but there was one student who went out of her way to try and console him.
A student who also suffered a loss and could relate to his sadness. Since she knew how horrible it felt she didn’t want him to feel the same way and wanted to try and ease he and his wife’s burden. Lawrence explained how much this meant to him in a Facebook post that has since gone viral and has been shared more than 261,000 times.
“This morning, during first period, my kids could tell that I was a little off. When they asked why I wasn’t acting normal I explained to them that my wife’s father had passed away this weekend and that I was worried about her,” the post read.
“They all said they were sorry and then we got started on our work. While standing at my door giving hugs and high fives at dismissal to 2nd period one little girl put something in my hand. She told me ‘This is for your wife. I know it was real expensive when my daddy died and I don’t really want ice cream today anyways.'”
Lawrence says that the little girl’s act of kindness should be an example to the world.
“I wish the world would pay more attention to children,” Lawrence explained. “We could learn a lot from them.”
The internet was absolutely taken with the love in this little girl’s heart.
“That .75 cents is actually priceless when you think about it,” one Facebook user said.
“Love is still out there in our hearts Thank you sweet baby girl for showing us,” another said.
