If you found a newborn baby crying in the trash, what would you do?

There’s nothing crueler than abandoning a newborn child into the “wilderness”. One can argue that the parents had their reasons but putting a baby’s life in danger will never be justified.

Fortunately, an abandoned baby in Haiti had a guardian angel on his side. He may be abandoned but he’ll grow up in love and acceptance.

Jimmy Amisial visited his hometown in Haiti back in 2017.

He makes these trips frequently especially when he’s on school breaks. The student from Texas State University also takes this time to help out at an orphanage next to their home.

Besides helping, he also makes sure that he’d bring presents to the children. This is how kind-hearted Amisial is – a kindness that will lead him to soul that needs him the most.

On his way to the orphanage, Amisial saw a crowd huddled over something.

Upon checking, he saw that the people were congregating around a trash can. When he reached the front of the commotion, he was shocked at what he found.

The people were looking at a baby. The baby was in visible discomfort. It was crying, unclothed, and in pain.

Amisial quickly picked up the baby when everyone else just stood and watched.

“Everyone was just staring at him – not a single soul wanted to help.” He said, as quoted by the Daily Mail. Refusing to just be idle, he took the baby to his mother’s house.

The baby was believed to be just four months old at that time. He was also covered in ant bites.

After cleaning, feeding, and clothing him, Amisial took the baby to the hospital for a general check-up. The police investigation also yielded no results as they weren’t able to trace the parents.

Being officially abandoned, the judge asked him to be the child’s legal guardian.

But Amisial was just a student at that time. More than that, they were also struggling to make ends meet just so he can study in the United States.

The decision was not easy. Amisial shared that he had sleepless nights just pondering about what would happen to him and the baby. Ultimately, one thing led to his answer.

“’But I didn’t have a dad growing up, and this poor child was facing a lifetime of instability and uncertainty.” He said to The Daily Mail.

He accepted the request and named the baby Emilio Angel Jeremiah.

It was a decision that changed his life forever and a commitment he upheld all throughout. With the help of his mother, he juggled his time between the US and Haiti so he could take care of little Emilio.

He found Emilio at just four months old and four years after, he’s ready to make another big decision.

Amisial wanted to formally adopt Emilio.

‘It’s been an incredible journey and watching him grow up has been so rewarding – I’m very proud of him.” He said to the news outlet.

He was also grateful for the opportunity to discover his capabilities as a father. They are just raising the money to get the process started. To make ends meet, he had to set aside his studies so he can work.

He is set to start his junior year in September.
